Fonda Margarita, CDMX!

Reviews Summary

Fonda Margarita is a beloved, no-frills institution praised for its authentic and flavorful Mexican home-style cooking, especially breakfast dishes. Diners rave about the communal atmosphere and the taste of tradition, though be prepared for early mornings and potential waits as popular items sell out quickly. The live music adds a charming touch to the vibrant, local experience.

"I don’t think I will ever have another Mexican meal that even comes close to this. Some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. The pork verde was definitely the highlight for me - tender succulent pieces of pork soaked in the most flavorful well-balanced verde sauce. Do yourself a favor and put this in your list of things to do on your visit to CDMX!"

Anirudh John

"Antony Bourdain said it first, probably one of the best places to take breakfast in the world and I agree.
Such a interesting place where you share table with whole community like old friends.
I have tried the chilaquiles with a huevito and the cerdo en salsa verde my wife ordered was epic"

Lord Foodie

"Authentic Mexican experience right here! Communal seating sat me right next to the loveliest couple that shared must-see recommendations of the City. A little uncomfy if you’re seated next to someone with broad shoulders and likes to gesture broadly.

Live music and kind service. Best chilaquiles I’ve ever had! Photos don’t do the food justice. Add a Mexican Coke and have a great experience."

The best restaurants in Mexico City, as per an Indian chef

Fonda Margarita is famously known as Anthony Bourdain’s favourite breakfast spot in Mexico City. “At the humble 'fonda' (a Mexican equivalent of a dhaba), you'll find sweet old men stringing their guitars and singing classic Mexican tunes, while locals gorge on perfectly acidic chilaquiles (crisp tortilla cooked in salsa and sprinkled with cheese), omelettes with black beans cooked in lard, beef cooked in a chile pasilla gravy and other divine specials of the day,” says Sanghi. You can also opt for eggs as you like them; huevos rancheros with spicy salsas, scrambled eggs with chorizo paired with fresh tortillas and café de olla (cinnamon-spiced coffee with raw dark sugar).
