Reviews Summary

El Vilsito is a highly recommended taqueria, celebrated for its exceptional al pastor tacos and unique ambiance as a mechanic shop by day and taco haven by night. While most reviews rave about the delicious food and lively atmosphere, a few diners have reported negative service experiences.

"Hands down the best pastor tacos in Mexico City.
The service is fast and staff are friendly. The vibe is really good especially if you go after 10 PM when people come in for a late bite before going home. It does get really busy and you're likely to stand outside.
Tacos is irresistible! One portion will not do :)"

Armin Bromand

"These are, without a doubt, the best el pastor tacos I’ve ever had in my life. Even now, back in the U.S., I find myself thinking about this place. The pork is perfectly crispy on the outside, sliced into tender, thin pieces, and topped with juicy pineapple. And let’s not forget the light green salsa—it’s the finishing touch that makes every bite absolutely perfect. I was so hooked, I came here three days in a row! Even now, I haven’t been able to find anything that comes close to the flavor of these tacos back home. The glowing reviews speak for themselves.

The seating is casual, with high-top tables, and there’s a bathroom for convenience. The salsas are served at a shared station by the tables, allowing you to choose your perfect level of spice.

What makes this place truly unique is the transformation it undergoes. During the day, it’s a car shop, but by night, it turns into a taco haven. I can’t wait to come back here again—it’s truly a hidden gem!"

Kelly Jung

"Michelin Guide said that this is one of the best taquerias in Mexico City. I don't know much about their history, but El Vilsito has some of if not the best tacos and salsa I've ever had! I've heard that it used to be better before the attention (as with most Michelin restaurants, but I can't imagine tacos tasting better than these. I ordered 5 different tacos, and they were all outstanding. They accept card and cash payment."

But stop by for a midnight snack, and it’ll be like an outdoor nightclub with a taco shack. Originally—and still to this day—a car repair shop, they eventually added a taquería to the storefront, and stay open until 3am on weekdays and 5am on Saturdays and Sundays. All the tacos are excellent, but their specialty is the gringa de pastor, which tastes great with their homemade avocado salsa.

The Best Tacos in Mexico City

During the day, El Vilsito is an auto repair shop in Colonia Narvarte, a skip southeast of hip hoods Condesa and Roma, but come night, the place is transformed into a taquería with a scene that goes late. Chef Alex Stupak, who went to Mexico City on a quest for the best al pastor tacos, is a fan of the achiote-marinated meat that’s formed into a trompo (literally “top,” referring to its shape) and cooked slowly on a vertical spit, sliced and served with a chunk of roasted pineapple on corn tortillas. “The move at El Vilsito is al pastor for sure,” says Stupak.

The Best Places to Eat in Mexico City, According to a Culinary Tour Guide

El Vilsito works as a car workshop during day time and moonlights as one of the most famous Tacos al Pastor spots in town. You can stand next to one of its three massive spits and watch the pineapple slices fly through the air and land gracefully on a warm corn tortilla and juicy pork. Not only are the tacos amazing but the torta de pastor con queso - served with a smudge of refried beans, pork, melted cheese, avocado slices, fresh onion and tomato, and a slightly toasted bun – is perfection.

Best Tacos in Mexico City | Best Taquerias

El Vilsito is my number one on the list as it was the first taqueria to come to mind. For me, this place has the best “ taco al pastor” ever, which is – at least in Mexico City – THE G.O.A.T. (and most popular). This palace of marvelous deliciousness is located in Colonia Narvarte, which is home to many great taco places, but it has a very special “magic” to it.

The Best Restaurants in Mexico City

Our favorite al pastor tacos in Mexico City are from El Vilsito, a tire shop by day, and a taqueria by night!. We ordered ours “gringa” style: served on flour tortillas with melted cheese, topped with cilantro, onion, pineapple, and salsa. And don't miss the torta – a behemoth of a sandwich filled with meat, avocado, peppers, and a mountain of melted cheese.
