On a tiny square in the revitalized neighborhood of Juarez, this all-day cafe and bar serves a perfectly edited menu of the just-healthy enough food we’ve all become accustomed to, as well as a natural wine list to wash it down. There’s ricotta toast for breakfast, avocado toast at lunch, and a perfectly calibrated fried chicken sandwich, courtesy of siblings Scarlett and Jake Lindeman. Scarlett, a food writer and an alum of Brooklyn’s Marlow & Sons restaurant, runs the kitchen while Jake, a food photographer, heads up the beverage department.

No complaints on that account at Cicatriz, whose open, industrial-styled storefront is a forum for several daily moods. No-compromise coffee and a variety of alternative baked goods form the morning agenda; lunch means a major emphasis on locally sourced greens in great salads and roasted iterations; the meatball and fried-chicken sandwich are both major crowd-pleasers as well. After five, it’s time to get your drink on; the bartenders deliver superior, crafted quaffs, but free from all the fuss you’ll see at other haute mixology spots.

Owned by American brother sister team of food writer Scarlett Lindeman and her photographer brother Jake, Colonia Juarez’s Cicatriz is an eclectic café with lots of light and an all around great drinking selection that dabbles in natural wines, artisanal Mexican beers, mezcal, and original cocktails. The always changing food menu, which is limited in the evenings as the drinking picks up, ranges from chicken soup with poached egg to a fried chicken sandwich to market driven salads and fresh baked pies. One third brunch spot, one third coffee shop and one third mezcal bar, you could spend all day long at Cicatriz Cafe. Located in Juarez, a great neighborhood to visit, in a plaza with a tiny park out front, Cicatriz is very much a part of a neighborhood that is Mexican yet modern. At Cicatriz, the menus are in English, the owners are from the US (and really know their stuff when it comes to mezcal varieties) and you can get an affogato or cold brew by daytime and a beer or cocktail by nighttime.

Café by day, wine and cocktail bar by night – Cicatriz was one of our favorite places to imbibe in Mexico City. This two-story loft transforms into an indoor/outdoor space with a simple opening of the garage door entrance, which is convenient as the space was overflowing with hipsters, fun music, and a very buzzy vibe. Their natural wine list is one of the best in town, including wines from Le Coste, Lammidia, Gut Oggau, Meinklang, La Stoppa, Strohmeier, and Bichi – but don’t stop there.

My brother Jake and I opened this all-day-café to fill the holes that we saw in the Mexico City dining scene. The kitchen turns out plates of roasted vegetables, American-style pastries, locally-roasted coffee, cocktails without pretense, and one big-ass salad. It is a true neighborhood spot: Regulars swing by for cortados and chia pudding in the morning, meet for lunch over tomato-braised meatballs, and return for the fried chicken sandwich and natural wine at night.

The cafe is open late, and in the evening turns into a trendy bar serving a range of cocktails, wines, and mezcals.

A cool hipster-vibe gem and neighborhood fave on the east side of Colonia Juarez – Cicatriz is a coffee shop, hang-out spot, restaurant and bar all in one. I’ve been here in the morning for coffee and breakfast, during the day to work and get lunch, and at night for drinks. Cicatriz has a casual, laid back and home-y feel that you don’t necessarily get everywhere.

Cicatriz is a fantastic Mexico City cafe located in the Juarez neighborhood. It is at a square where you’ll find amazing hot chocolate at La Rifa, great brunch at Juana Juana, cute plants to buy at Querencia and of course, delicious coffee at Cicatriz. The cafe is inside an old loft-style building so you can sit downstairs or upstairs in the loft.

Cicatriz is located in the trendy neighbourhood of La Juarez, right at a corner where their big black doors are wide open. This is a cosy, casual place with a long bar, a lot of wine and other specials of the day. The interior is sparse, with nothing on the walls except a little blackboard where you find the wines offered by the glass.

Her favorite spots include Cicatriz, a funky cafe run by fellow former New Yorkers Jake & Scarlett Lindeman (try the roasted carrots) steps from the city’s Centro and the laidback late-night spot Paramo in the artsy Roma Norte neighborhood. While you are there stop by Hugo El Winebar, a newer spot, specializing in natural wines.

Open in Juarez, this minimal, clean and aesthetic cafe is well-known for its traditional roasts along with some fresh food. The loft-like design with modern interiors gives you the perfect vibe to enjoy fresh baked goods with an espresso or a cold brew. We recommend trying the mezcal and chocolate, especially during the winter.

Beside Rifa Chocolateria is a lovely venue that doubles up as a popular Mexico City coffee shop, relaxed brunch and lunch spot, and a low-lit atmospheric dinner restaurant with cocktails added to the menu. Drink your coffee at Cicatriz paired with any dish on the menu; they make simple-sounding things so fresh and creative!

A few blocks from Amaya is Cicatriz, a popular Colonia Juárez watering hole led by brother-sister duo Jake and Scarlett Lindeman. While Scarlett cooks, Jake pours. “We’ve been committed to having a natural wine program since we opened in 2017,” says Jake.

If you’re looking for more of a cafe vibe, Cicatriz can’t be missed. It’s one of my favorite spots in the city and has a really cute and cozy design, and is a great place for those of you who are more into cafe hopping/food blogging.

You can have breakfast at Havre 77 or Café Nin, eat at Loose Blues or Masala & Maíz, indulge in a dessert at Joe Gelato, or enjoy a coffee or a cold beer at Cicatriz.

CICATRIZ: They usually have a couple great salads on the menu (which I am always THRILLED to find) and a renowned fried chicken sandwich.

However, Local 1, Cicatriz and Loup Bar seem to make all of the lists. Most of these places focus on European wines.
