"Unique food experiences at Kuuk. We loved it. Our favorite dish of all was the smoky shrimp over rice. the pumpkin appetizer is a must try. i wish we would have saved more room for a second dessert. we shared a light one with tofu & celery. imaginative and delicious. Good wine. Great cocktails. Excellent service. We loved it."

Megan Thompson

"Wonderful restaurant set in one of Merida's grand old mansions. They have an a la carte menu but I highly recommend the "tasting menu" which is a 12 course culinary experience. The waitstaff is incredibly knowledgeable and will explain each course as it is served along with recommendations on how to best enjoy each dish. Absolutely amazing. After your meal, request a tour of the mansion, you will be amazed by everything going on in there, from the massive kitchen to the taste research lab. A truly wonderful experience"

K’u’uk, which means "sprout" in Mayan, is chic in every sense of the word, from the suave waiters to the molecular gastronomy dining experience in a historic mansion facing the Monumento a la Patria on Paseo de Montejo. The presentation is artistic—picture dollops of baby pumpkin dusted with goat cheese the texture of powdered snow, potatoes slices as thin as tissue paper, and desserts sprinkled with dehydrated berries or honey-soaked seeds. Many of the Yucatecan options are prepared in a custom-built pibil oven, allowing for a modernized way to impart a traditional smoky flavor.

A Local's Guide to the Best of Mérida, Mexico

K'u'uk means "sprout" in Mayan, and pays homage to the freshness of the ingredients and the garden just outside the building where many edible plants are grown for use in the dishes. The open kitchen is ultra-modern and looks like the control room of the Starship Enterprise, and I remember one dish in particular was a perfect cube of smoked pork belly on a huge stone platter, hidden beneath a glass dome full of smoke. When the waiter removed the dome, the smoke wafted upward and completed the sensory experience.
