If you’re longing to savor the taste of Guinness, McCarthy’s Irish Pub is the place to head. There are two branches of the chain pub in Mérida, with the venue on the iconic Paseo de Montejo by far the most popular. McCarthy’s offers a broad range of national and imported beer, including its own brand of blonde ale house beer.

The photos of the Irish countryside and ’80s classics on the soundtrack seem a little off, but the outdoor terrace on the Paseo de Montejo fills up.

I don’t know about you, but personally, it never ceases to amaze me how you can always find authentic Irish pubs in every corner of the world. Set right on the Paseo de Montejo, Hennessy’s Irish pub is a popular meeting point among the expat crowd in Merida on Friday and Saturday nights. They often have live musicians performing out at the front of the bar, singing everything from Classic Rock to Blues and Country Music.

Located in beautiful Paseo de Montejo just 10 minutes walking from my two houses, this is my favorite stop to eat the best spaghetti bolognese in town. I love going there or alone, when the afternoon is too hot to eat outside and I feel tired, or with my family at night because the menu offers variety at good price. Everything is tasty, everybody will be happy, so it is a very good restaurant option.

Hennessy’s Irish Pub is practically right around the corner from my temporary Mérida home, so I knew I had to give it a try. One of the things I miss most about city living (and by city living, I mean being in Ottawa), is being able to walk to a pub. I lived across the street from The Dunvegan, but my favourite was the Winston Churchill, quite a distance away in front of the National Art Gallery.
