But it’s worth the wait – besides a delicious and subtly spiced torta ahogada, La Chata also offers an incredible pozole, a comforting, delicious corn soup in a limey broth that is the Mexican answer to chicken noodle soup. The restaurant is a great place to try flautas – lightly fried tortillas stuffed with meat, referred to in the United States as taquitos – and sweet horchata (a sweet rice milk drink).

La Chata (Av Ramón Corona 126, Zona Centro) in the downtown area was a very good place to try a number of dishes from pozole, to tortas ahogadas (a “soaked” sandwich, if you will). There always seems to be a line of locals. The line moves fast, so no worries 😃

They have a few locations scattered around the city including this one up by the busy Zona Centro area. La Chata is a classic Mexican old school diner style restaurant. It's menu long with home cooked options from the open air kitchen up front.

If there is one thing I have learned about travel, is that you always go where the locals tell you to go. He wasn’t wrong, and this restaurant didn’t disappoint. There is a line out the door at all opening hours of the day.

Before our trip was over, we met up with M for lunch at La Chata with its consistently good food and service. We’re thinking it’s time to branch out, but just can’t miss the opportunity to re-visit this place.
