This funky café, where expats and locals congregate, serves up smoothies, baked goods, tacos, homemade ice cream, and everything in between. The breakfast menu spans acai bowls, eggs Benedict, pancakes, and fruit plates, and for lunch and dinner you'll find blackened fish tacos, coconut shrimp, burgers, and vegetable wraps. Set back from the little plaza, the colorful garden is a pleasant place to have a coffee, and its location by the ecological center makes it the closest thing Akumal has to a downtown.

Although Akumal is made up mainly of vacationers, it's a quiet, laid back kind of place, not really a 'tourist trap' kind of scene.

For a beach day you’ll never forget, be sure to visit the unique Turtle Beach of Akumal. This beach is famous for being a turtle nesting area, plus the sea floor is covered in a special grass that the adult turtles love to eat, making it the perfect place to swim with sea turtles. Although this beach does get a little crowded in the afternoons, if you get there early, you can enjoy a serene and truly magical beach experience.

The apartment is right on a stretch of beach perfect for snorkeling. If you walk out towards the sea, turn left till the last condo (white) on the row, go to the other side of the road along the condo, walk into the sea, put your face down, find a hole or a crevice, you will see hundreds of fish without swimming. The crevices are among the dead coral, stretching all the way to the left point of our small bay.

Just North of the main parking lot at Akumal Bay (Open 7am-9pm). For fresh baked goods (some of the best pies in the region), and a divine mix of local and international cuisine (from eggs benedicts to seafood stuffed chili rellenos,) Turtle Bay Café is a must when in Akumal. It has been around for a while, filling customers’ bellies with home baked goodness and delicious meals for nearly 20 years!

I loved Turtle Bay Bakery and Cafe which is a great place to grab breakfast or lunch. If you’re planning a day at the beach, the bakery section is a great choice to pick up freshly baked cookies and pies. Breakfast at Turtle Bay Bakery & Cafe offers smoothie bowls, Mexican egg dishes like chilaquiles and huevos rancheros, as well as breakfast staples like avocado toast.

Turtle Bay Cafe is your go-to spot for delicious, freshly baked goods and a diverse menu that caters to all tastes. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty breakfast, a light lunch, or an exceptional dinner, this charming café has something for everyone. We didn't make it to La Lunita this time but ate at Que Onda (good), La Buena Vida (t-shirts were better than the food), Cueva del Pescador (ask for Carlos) and Turtle Bay Cafe (wifi!!!!) many times - also had the best coconut ice cream next door to Lol Ha!!. For sweet bread, try the bakery/pizza shop in the pueblo (next to the pharmacy) - yum!

Discover its beautiful reef where you will most likely come across some turtles, or swim in any of its beautiful bays; among them you will find Yal Ku Cove, Media Luna, Turtle Bay, Akumal South, and Bahía Principe, all extremely quiet and perfect for water activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, windsurfing and cenote exploration.

We were sad we didn’t discover this spot until the last day, but this restaurant has a great menu. Turtle Bay Cafe’s morning pastries and coffee bar looked amazing, and I definitely plan to visit for breakfast during your stay. They had homemade ice cream, so we highly recommend stopping by for a scoop of their Mexican Vanilla!

We stopped here late night one day so my husband could get some tortilla soup. I saw Vegan Dulche de Leche ice cream on the menu so obviously had to order that. I’ve never eaten lunch or dinner there but they have a vegan superfood salad on the menu as well as a veggie-loaded vegan pita with hummus.

Another must-visit eatery is Turtle Bay Cafe & Bakery, where quality food and desserts are served, and the atmosphere is perfectly suited for young kids. For those craving Italian dishes, Taverna Akumal offers an excellent menu, including delicious lasagne and California pizza, amid great service.

Unless you have a kitchen and plan on making your own breakfast, head to the Turtle Bay Cafe, Lucy's Kitchen or La Buena Vida. La Buena Vida now serves breakfast from 8-11am daily. Here you'll find the traditional breakfast options, but with excellent views of the ocean.

Turtle Bay Cafe & Bakery (below) is a favourite, as it’s open for breakfast (try the sticky buns), lunch, and dinner. The homemade ice cream is especially popular; their Dulce de Leche and Dark Chocolate Habanero flavours are the most evocative of Mexico’s produce.

Turtle Bay Café and Bakery is a fantastic restaurant located in the center of Akumal with freshly baked breads, quiches, pastries, etc. Wonderful desserts can be taken home. They also feature gourmet breakfasts and lunches. Our Favorite: Expatriat (breakfast).

La Cueva del Pescador (Cave of the Fishes) - (12/02) � right next door to Turtle Bay. They are open for lunch and dinner and almost always have a crowd. Seafood is the specialty here.

Located next to Pescador, start your day right with a delicious breakfast including fresh baked goods and beautiful fruit plates. Try the Crab Cakes Benedict!
