Reviews Summary

Jawi House Cafe Gallery is highly praised for its delicious and authentic Jawi Peranakan cuisine, served in a charming heritage setting. Reviewers consistently highlight the unique flavors, high-quality ingredients, and excellent service, making it a memorable dining experience. While most feedback is overwhelmingly positive, some noted minor issues with specific dishes like beef rendang being slightly dry or laksa needing a bit more tamarind.

"The food at Jawi House Cafe Gallery was absolutely delicious, so good that we went back a second time! On our first visit, we had the Jawi Briyani Chicken Rice, Mango Kerabu, and the Malay Style Fried Chicken. Every dish was packed with flavour and beautifully presented. The Mango Kerabu especially was a standout, fresh, tangy, and perfectly balanced.

We loved it so much we returned again, and this time tried the Tomato Rice and Fish Curry, both were excellent! The fish curry was rich and aromatic, and the tomato rice was so flavourful on its own. Of course, we couldn’t resist ordering the Mango Kerabu and Fried Chicken again.. it was just that good!

Highly recommended if you're looking for authentic and flavourful local cuisine with a unique Jawi twist. A must-visit when in George Town!"

"Recommend making reservations for larger parties. The first time I came here with a party or 8, they couldn't seat us. We were able to come a few days later with a reservation. I enjoyed all of the appetizers we got which included the roti surai, cucur udang, and levant platter. I had the Jawi laksa lemak for my main dish and thought it was ok. I was hoping for chunks of tuna and mackeral in the curry but I learned from a local the fish is stewed in the sauce for flavor (and you shouldn't expect chunks of fish). Also order the masala, which was delicious."

Vivian Anne

"Every dish we tried was a delightful culinary journey. The Rose Chicken was incredibly tender with a perfectly balanced, aromatic curry, and the Prawn Biryani was flavorful and generously portioned with succulent prawns. Don't miss their refreshing Mango Salad either – it's the perfect zesty counterpoint to the rich curries. Highly recommend for an authentic and delicious Jawi Peranakan experience!"

The 10 Best Restaurants In George Town Penang

This old shophouse on Armenian Street has been transformed anew — thanks to Chef Nurilkarim. Celebrating the Jawi Peranakans (indigenous Malays who married Indian, Arab, Turkish and Persian migrants) of the region, the restaurant’s star chef combines flowers, herbs, and spices to revive the fragrant cuisine of the community.Of note: the Lemuni, a rice dish cooked with blue telang flowers and lemuni leaves. It’s the lemuni that gives the dish its greenish hue and herbal taste — you’ll want to plant some of these babies in your backyard.
