It’s the kind of place where you imagine a Laos prince, Graham Greene and French flâneurs mingling on the terrace over a glass of mint and lime followed by harder liquor. The Belle Rive’s three knockout houses – Tamarind, Mango and Frangipani – stand along the Mekong and have been restored and resurrected by six Germans who fell in love with Laos’ former royal capital. The glamorous rooms are scented with rosewood and have four-poster beds with dove grey drapes and yellow ribbons, chaises longues and handpainted bathroom sinks.

This is an riverside restaurant overlooking the shore of the Mekong River, with a beautiful view on the nearby mountains, it is a peaceful place during the day, and a romantic place in the evening. Here you have your breakfast in the morning sun, a quick lunch or a relaxed sundowner in the afternoon or a romantic dinner in the evening. The menu of the restaurant consists of Thai and Lao specialties, but offers as well international and fusion food.

Hints: This is one of the most photographed buildings in the peninsula. We’ve actually used this spot for a photoshoot more than once!. The Belle Rive Terrace is a riverside restaurant behind Luang Prabang’s Wat Sene. Part of the Belle Rive boutique hotel, it has two dining terraces overlooking the Mekong River and is surrounded by tamarind and palm trees. You can enjoy classic Lao and Thai dishes, along with a good selection of beer, wine, and cocktails.

The Belle Rive Terrace (website, location on Google Maps) serves a fusion menu of Lao/European dishes with large, frosty bottles of BeerLao. The narrow terrace limits the number of patrons at any given time, offering a sense of privacy and exclusivity that’s harder and harder to find around Luang Prabang.

A beautiful and romantic hideaway is The Belle Rive Terrace. Tucked away, surrounded by trees and overlooking the Mekong River, you must bring your special someone here for a delicious lunch!. However, if it is a little too hot to sit outside, don’t worry, they also have indoor seating.

The Belle Rive is a quite touristy (but not in a terrible way) place which offers one of the best views of sunset over the Mekong River. They also fortunately have very nice food, and given the location, prices aren’t that bad.

We stopped by the Belle Rive Terrace one afternoon for a quick drink before we booked a meal to watch the sunset. The setting was beautiful right by the Mekong Delta and amongst their beautiful gardens and on comfy seats.
