Lao Khao Soi is different to the Northern Thai Khao Soi I tried. It is surely a different bowl with different flavours, but as amazingly delicious and filling! 🇱🇦🍜😋 This spot in Luang Prabang is not to be missed. Reviews Summary

This noodle shop is highly praised for its authentic Khao Soi, often called the best in Laos, with perfectly balanced flavors and tender noodles. Diners also appreciate the generous portions of fresh vegetables served alongside. While most reviews are glowing, a few have noted that the soup could be hotter and some found the broth less appealing.

"Quite possibly the best Khao Soi I tried in my month in Laos, well balanced and full of flavour with nice noodles cooked well to the bite.

Its a small family run shop with super friendly owners but with limited seating and serves only from 7:30 - 12:00pm, so be sure to arrive early before they run out."

"Khao soy tastes unique and more delicious than the noodle. Vegetables are fresh and well prepared and displayed on the dish."

Tran

"Outstanding chicken and broth noodles with blood cubes - served with fresh bean sprout and lemon slices. Maybe the best I have had since my Javanese wandering days - I would return to the city for the noodles alone"

Laos: Food to eat in Luang Prabang

Different from khao soi from Chiang Mai as Luang Prabang's khao soi uses clear stock and it is topped with some chilli and fermented soy bean paste so has some bright red hue. We had it as part of our first meal in Luang Prabang at Sackarinh Guest House. Even though this wasn't the popular or highly recommended shop to have khao soi (or other dishes actually) but we found the food there to be yummy and affordable.

3 Days in Luang Prabang, Laos

There are two Khao Soi (flat rice noodle soup with pork) stalls along Sakkaline Road, and Diana and I decided to try them both for breakfast. Both stalls do not have signboards — the first one we visited is opposite Wat Sene, and the second one is opposite Villa Santi. The former is more popular, but I preferred the latter — the broth was spicier with larger chunks of meat, and the lady was friendlier too.

On our 2019 trip to Luang Prabang, we stumbled across a noodle shop in the morning that had the best noodles we’d had in all of Southeast Asia. Upon returning in 2024, we were not too surprised to hear that this small noodle shop had become world famous. You need to get to the noodle shop early when it opens because once she runs out of her stock, she closes shop for the day.

But again the Lao version is a whole other creation, in some ways closer to the dish found in Myanmar’s Shan State, across the border from Chiang Mai.
