It was already afternoon and we wanted a good cup of coffee to keep us going, and since we were close by, I thought to take them to Books@Cafe, which is my favourite cafe in town. This is where I used to hang out with my friends since school days. Every so often we would go there and spend the whole afternoon out on the terrace, overlooking the beautiful Mountain studded with very old houses; a beautiful scene of old Amman.

If you’re looking for a coffee shop that’s similar to any that you’d find in New York or San Francisco, this is your spot. There are two locations, but most visitors to Amman will probably find themselves staying nearer to the location right off Rainbow Street, in the Jabal Amman neighborhood. Books@Cafe is a combination book store, art gallery, coffee shop, restaurant, and bar.

Books@cafe (Omar Bin Al-Khattab St 12) is where you’ll find the greatest concentration of Westerners during the day (apart from the touristic sights). The interior reminds me of some kind of New Zealand beach town cafe for some reason. There’s a balcony, with plenty of space and bit of a view.

Located on Rainbow Street, Books@Café is a great place to hang out. With a bookshop downstairs and a restaurant and bar above, you can enjoy simple but good food. During the summer, the courtyard is open and you can enjoy a drink outside with a great view over downtown Amman.

For something different, we headed to this place for some non-Middle Eastern food. Seated outside under the stars, we ordered pizza and salad and splashed out for a pitcher of beer (which, this being Jordan, alone cost us the equivalent of $22).

Books@Café has two locations in Amman, the original one is located in Jabal. The café calls itself one of the most iconic and revolutionary establishments in Jordan. Established in 1997, the spot is a hip bookstore, café and restaurant in one.

Although it was originally opened as an internet cafe, it has since become a bookstore and cafe. It’s a great place for lunch, casual dinner, or an evening out with friends. The menu has various salads, sandwiches, entrees, and desserts.

Books@Cafe is situated towards the end of Rainbow Street, and is good for brunch or sundown drinks. A rooftop café above a quaint bookstore, the balcony overlooks a rustic view of the old city and a gorgeous mosque in the distance.

For a superb brunch in a fun atmosphere, visit Books-at-Cafe on Omar Ibn Al-Khatteb Street in Amman. The first floor is a bookstore, boasting a wide variety of titles in English. Up a flight of stairs is the cafe and bar area.

Books@ Cafe (a Jabal Amman classic) is one of the best spots to enjoy a beautiful sunset. Grab a beer and some shisha and settle in to watch the sunset over East Amman.
