Reviews Summary

Uobei Shibuya Dogenzaka is praised for its incredibly fast service and fresh, tasty sushi at exceptionally affordable prices. While the atmosphere is bustling and staff are efficient rather than overly friendly, the unique ordering and delivery system provides a fun and memorable dining experience. Some minor issues like missing condiments have been noted, but overall, it's a highly recommended spot for a casual and satisfying sushi meal.

"Selection and efficiency is quite good. There are two levels for the conveyor belt, which allows people to receive their food quickly. The coke and lemon drink is pretty good. It also comes with lychee jelly.
You have assigned seats when you come in."

Arsen Akishev

"Good alternative to Kura sushi, though it lacks some of the modern conveniences that Kura offers. For example, there is no place to automatically drop the plates, so you have to call staff to take away used dishes. This can be a problem during busy times, especially if you order dishes that can’t be stacked. Menu is pretty large with good variety. Fish tasted fresh."

David Xing

"We had some fantastic sushi and tempura at Uobei in Shibuya. Such a fun experience ordering on an iPad and having it delivered right to you on the conveyor belt within a couple of minutes. Really good value as well, with plates from about ¥100 and a reasonably priced range of drinks. There was a queue but it went down pretty quickly, within less than 10 minutes. Highly reccomended"

9 best budget sushi restaurants in Tokyo

One day, all kaitenzushi restaurants might be like this high-tech Shibuya sushi shop. You won't even find any conveyor belts in Uobei: once you place your orders via a multi-language touch screen, the dishes are delivered by high-speed chute, with nary a hint of there being any humans involved in the process. The flavours aren't quite as dazzling as the futuristic presentation, but when you're paying a rock-bottom ¥110 for each item on the menu, it's hard to complain.

The menu at Uobei is common to see in many Tokyo restaurants, but the speciality lies in their ordering and serving system. Being completely dedicated to hi-tech modern era, customers are seated upon their place in a long row and are made to make orders through buttons available, then suddenly a conveyor belt arrives and delivers the food. The taste and ambience is worth paying the money and the experience visitors gain makes an everlasting impression as no humans are involved in the entire restaurant process!

Tokyo Uobei Sushi, Zauo Boat, Moomin House Cafe, Ikinari Steak, Detective Cafe

Forever on the edge of new or absurdly fun technology, Tokyo's Uobei Sushi combines two things that people really love: technology and inexpensive sushi. The queues are a testament to this - the lines snake around the entrance of the restaurant and when sushi is just over Y100 (around $1.20AUD/$0.89USD) a plate for two pieces then you understand why. Just join the queue and eventually it will snake around to the seated area.

This is a unique and fun way to experience proper Japanese technology and order multiple items without bothering a waiter or waitress every time.
