Reviews Summary

Udon Maruka is celebrated for its exceptionally smooth and chewy udon noodles and rich broths, making it a must-visit for udon enthusiasts. Diners also rave about the perfectly crispy tempura, particularly the shrimp and chicken options, and appreciate the cozy, local atmosphere and affordable prices. However, some visitors have encountered issues with menu availability, with certain popular items not being served despite being advertised, leading to disappointment.

"Excellent udon and soup. Ordered the beef udon, great amount of good yummy beef too. Wonderful price. The shrimp tempura was also wonderful, will order it again!"

"とてもおいしいです!From Canada!

The best udon I've ever had in my life.

Waited about 30 minutes in line and ordered a niku udon with all sorts of tempura on the side for around 1600 yen.

Words don't do this bowl of udon justice. It was generously topped with bonito flakes, tons of meat, and a very flavorful broth.

The tempura is another story of its own... some of the best I've ever had in my entire life! Although a bit pricey, they are huge pieces of tempura and packed with flavor. I've never had such a juicy shrimp tempura until now.

The staff are also kind and accomodating. There is an English menu and they even let us stay after closing mid-day. I HIGHLY recommend visiting Udon Maruka. I will be coming back every time I'm in Tokyo."

David Pham

"They served some of the best udon in Tokyo, and this bowl was no exception. The udon noodles were incredibly smooth, with a perfect chewy texture that paired well with the fresh green onions and the richness of the egg yolk. The tororo added a light creaminess, balanced by a hint of wasabi for a subtle kick. The shrimp tempura was perfectly crispy on the outside while keeping the shrimp inside juicy and tender. The soy-based sauce brought everything together beautifully. A simple yet satisfying meal that showcases the finesse of classic udon😍"

The Best Udon in Tokyo (Japan

Maruka Udon is the Gold Standard Udon because it is simply the best all round Udon in Tokyo and the Udon that all new top shop gets measured against. They may not be “known” for any particular Udon serving style but that’s because they do everything well, whether it’s kake, kamaage, kamatama or bukkake. The only thing that you must get is their kashiwa-ten (chicken tempura) which is one of the juiciest and best in Tokyo.

Walk under a triptych of noren banners to arrive in Udon Maruka, a noodle heaven with a small kitchen bordered by a bar that seats about 12 diners. But the restaurant is a well-oiled machine, and deep umami aromas leave little doubt as to why fans are willing to wait in 45-minute queues just to get their hands on a bowl.
