📍Udatsu Sushi, Tokyo || One of my bucket list items has always been to have a Michelin starred sushi omakase meal in Japan. This was a dream come true! Chef Hisashi Udatsu and his team delivered such a memorable and delicious experience with the courses switching between inventive and classic styles of sushi. 😍 #japan #japanfood #fyp #omakase #tokyo #tokyofood #michelinstar #sushi #finedining

We experienced a $400 Omakase at the legendary Udatsu Sushi 🌟 They received a Michelin star back in 2022 and we can totally see why. For the full video checkout our YouTube channel! Link in bio 🫶🏻 We decided to splurge on their 21-course set menu which costs ¥36,000 per person (approx, $400NZD or $230USD) and what an experience it was! We absolutely loved the mix of traditional nigiri to more mode...

Vegetarian Omakase at Udatsu Sushi 🤗🍣🍱 Super cool experience I feel special to have been a part of! . . 🥢✨ Omakase, but make it vegetarian. ✨🥢 Last night at Udatsu Sushi in Tokyo, I had a plant-based omakase that was anything but boring — think perfectly seasoned sushi rice, seasonal vegetables, and delicate flavors so fresh they practically whispered “arigatou.” 🌱🍣 Every course felt like a littl...

Reviews Summary

Udatsu Sushi is widely praised for its innovative Edomae sushi, warm hospitality, and artistic, intimate atmosphere. Diners rave about the quality of the fish, the chef's creativity, and the option for vegetarian courses. While generally an exceptional experience, some find the omakase to be on the pricier side for the portion size.

"We were greeted with such gentle hospitality here. The food was absolutely delicate and special - for us as vegetarians it was incredible to see the sushi prepared just in front of our eyes and not have to worry about it - it was prepared with absolute care and delicious taste. The atmosphere was beautiful and the staff was so kind. The sake pairing opened a world of taste to us that we hadn't known before. What an evening to celebrate our holidays in this country."

Luise Lay

"I opted for omakase 1 and my girlfriend got the vegetarian option. I think the food was good but just too expensive for what it was. We paid €200 per person including drinks, we didn’t even get the pairing option. We ordered 2 separate drinks each.

Overall I think the experience is worth it if you’re a real sushi lover like my girlfriend did. For me I just thought it was just too expensive for what I got. I was a little hungry afterwards too."

Anshul Nama

"I first got introduced to Udatsu through the wonderful sister bar. I was excited to try the restaurant. The space is beautiful, elegant and relaxing. The staff is friendly and warm. The food was a good mixing of authentic and innovative. The presentation was masterful. I really enjoyed the experience."

4 new sushi restaurants also receive One MICHELIN Star for the first time: traditional Edomae Sushi Hanabusa, which focuses exclusively on tuna preparations; the refined and highly personal Oku and Sushi Ichijo; and finally, the creative UDATSU SUSHI. In the latter, chef Hisashi Udatsu twists traditions with modern touches, adding new elements to sushi and imagining innovative toppings. Two types of vinegared rice are prepared to suit each type of sushi, and vegetables play a key role. The 'Herb Roll', which is served as a side dish with sake, and the 'Veggie Roll' are two representative examples.

We love the art-filled interior and mood lighting in this beautiful sushi spot, tucked into a quiet residential pocket of Nakameguro. Hisahi Udatsu is well versed in the classics but adds touches of creativity in bites like the hay-scented tuna, presented under a glass dome of smoke; a verdant and refreshing roll filled with fresh herbs and vegetables from a local farm; and richly marbled wagyu, charcoal-seared and served as nigiri. Vegetarian menus are available upon request at the time of booking.

This intimate counter-only sushi restaurant in Naka-Meguro’s backstreets serves omakase courses based on what the owner-chef sources each day from Toyosu Market, so you never know exactly what you will be served; just that it will be incredible. While fish takes center-stage, herbs and vegetables are also incorporated into Udatsu’s often modern take on sushi. Taking that a step further, there’s also a vegetarian sushi course (that needs to be reserved at least two days in advance).
