🍴🍴 2/5 Disappointed with my tempura experience at Tempura Tsunahachi's Ginza location. Mistake to come here instead of the famous Shinjuku spot! The restaurant was empty and communication was tough. The tempura was decent, but seriously overpriced for what you get. An underwhelming start to my Japan food journey. Definitely not recommended. #TempuraTsunahachi #Ginza #Tokyo #JapanFood #Tempura #Foo...

Reviews Summary

Tempura Shinjuku Tsunahachi Ginza is celebrated for its authentic tempura, featuring light, crispy batter and fresh ingredients, with many praising the attentive service and interactive counter experience. However, some diners have noted that it can be pricey and have experienced issues with communication or perceived differential treatment.

"Authentic tempura experience in Ginza. Staff were very friendly and kind to me as a foreigner. Tempura was light, not salty at all, and very crispy. I wanted to try this restaurant out because I had heard so many great reviews, and I definitely was not disappointed. I was able to learn how to properly mix for authentic tempura sauce.

What will remain with me and has convinced me to come back in the future, is one of the chefs went out of their way to ask me if I would be able to eat a certain part of the course. Many restaurants even in North America do not do this. So this restaurant should be very proud of their service.

11/10 experience without a doubt.

Sincerely, a very grateful tourist :)"

"Had dinner here at their Ginza branch 2025 March 17 with family.
We had their tempura and tendon sets, they were perfectly fried and well presented.
The taste was good and the service was decent, the staff were attentive to our needs."

"Went here for dinner Sunday October 27 2024. We were a party of 3 and luckily one of us is fluent in Japanese as they spoke no English. We ordered two set menus each different and one assorted 12 piece tempura. We had beers and plum wine. A total of 5 drinks and our bill with tax and service was ¥24,200 so not cheap however not crazy and it was very good. I loved the sweet potato, lotus root and shrimp. We had a small room with our reservation that had one other big table that was seated when we left. Friendly people, clean and good tempura. Closer to a 4.5 however it was better than 4!"

Ultimate Tokyo Food Guide In Japan - Where And What To Eat

Battered and fried seafood, meats, and vegetables is a mainstay of Japanese cuisine but did you know that it was introduced by Portuguese merchants in the 16th and 17th century?. Battered fried food wasn’t a thing until that point in time. Just one of the few things we learned during our walking food tour.
