Reviews Summary

Tempura Motoyoshi is lauded for its exceptional tempura, featuring incredibly light and crispy batter that highlights the fresh ingredients. Diners praise the chef's mastery, the intimate ambiance, and the unique, seasonal dishes. While the experience is highly regarded, the exclusive nature and limited seating mean advance booking is crucial.

"Discovering Tokyo's Best Tempura Experience: A must-visit destination for culinary enthusiasts, this restaurant stands as a pinnacle of tempura craftsmanship in Tokyo. The chef, a master in the art of tempura preparation, showcases an extraordinary level of skill, ensuring each dish is a masterpiece of flavor and texture. The menu, a delightful array of carefully selected ingredients, comes to life under the chef's expert hands, creating a harmonious blend of traditional and innovative tempura dishes.

The ambiance of the restaurant enhances the dining experience, with a cozy and inviting atmosphere that complements the culinary journey. Sake connoisseurs will be thrilled by the extensive selection of premium sake, carefully chosen to pair exquisitely with the tempura, elevating the flavors to new heights.

A unique aspect of this dining experience is the auditory delight of the tempura frying. The sound of the batter gently sizzling as it meets the hot oil is not just aural pleasure but also an assurance of the freshness and quality of each dish being prepared.

This restaurant is more than just a meal; it's a celebration of the senses. From the first bite to the last, the experience is unforgettable. Whether you're a long-time lover of tempura or new to this culinary delight, a visit here is highly recommended. A journey to this tempura haven promises to leave you with lasting memories and a desire to return."

"My wife and I dined at Motoyoshi Tempura tonight, a delightful and unforgettable dining experience for both of us. The skill level of tempura presented by the chef at Motoyoshi was in my personal experience the best tempura I had tried in Japan. Each serving was beautifully presented and perfectly cooked at the right timing and temperature that preserved the taste of the ingredient. The chef had demonstarted his skills as a well deserved Michelin two stars chef. The tempura was covered with a thin layer of crispy tempura batter that was delicious and not oily. A new benchmark of how a great tempura should taste like for me. Thank you chef and your teams for the best tempura dining experience tonight."

Chef Motoyoshi's deep-fried delicacies are fantastically light, sheathed in a crisp coating of golden batter that owes its crunch to a mixture of canola and sesame oil. He has a knack for vegetables, which he ferries from Tsukiji market on the back of his motorbike every day. Among his signatures are succulent Takagime peppers from Kyoto, pudding-like croquettes of sweet Japanese corn, and myoga wild Japanese ginger buds.

Everything about this tiny restaurant, which specialises in tempura and only seats eight, is beautifully Japanese – from the décor (a large tree branch juts out of the kitchen and into the diners’ space) to the handwritten sake list (I opt for a chilled sake). A small plate sits in front of us for the tempura paper to be placed on it and what you notice with every placement is that there’s no oil left on the paper.

Motoyoshi is one of the better Tempura restaurants in Tokyo that is relatively easy to book. Kazuhito Motoyoshi-san is known for his light and extremely crispy batter.
