Reviews Summary

Diners consistently praise Sarashina Horii for its exceptional soba noodles, highlighting their unique texture and flavor, often calling it the best they've had in Japan. The historic ambiance and attentive service also receive high marks, though some mention that English menus can be a challenge and portion sizes may be smaller than expected. It's a place where tradition and quality create a truly memorable dining experience.

"Your greeted by friendly staff. We were asked if we wanted to have a Japanese style dinner and we said yes it was very enjoyable.

The food was very delicious and filling portions were a bit small, but definitely worth the try. The service was amazing and they explained everything in detail."

"I love this place. I have been in Japan for so long. I never enjoy Soba in general. There are so many tourist traps that serve instant soba noodles. The noodles here are built different. The cost is not low, but the experience is truly insane. I only began to enjoy soba because of this shop. When I made it at home, I dislike soba again. Please drop by to try this place. It’s amazing 🥰"

"Ok so this place as such an history you just can't give it less than 5 stars. It was full with line waiting outside and even though we came without resevation they found us a spot in a tatami (not my cup of tea). The food was really good and with good prices considering the place and location."

This soba restaurant in Azabu-Juban has been a popular local spot for over 230 years, even serving daimyo lords during the Edo period (1603-1867) and, later, the imperial household. Soba usually comes in different shades of brown, courtesy of the buckwheat husks traditionally ground into the dough. The downside of that approach is it can give the noodles less elasticity and a rougher texture.
