The next morning, we walked to the Miyagawa Morning Market, where white tents parallel one side of the clear Miyagawa river filled with gold and ruby carp. Here, locally made Sarubobo dolls, snacks and fresh produce are on sale while nearby cafes take advantage of the hungry crowds. It’s a fun place to people watch if nothing else, though I’m pretty sure the rice crackers we purchased went for half the cost at the convenience shop under our hotel!.

Again we stopped by the Takayama Morning Miyagawa Market by the river for the more taiyaki treats, Hida beef sushi, fresh Hida milk, and meat buns. Market closes at noon so do not come late. My son fed the orange carps in the river again.

The other is the Miyagawa Morning Market on the east side of Miyagawa River, which begins just north of the Kaji Bridge; this one offers a larger variety of street food with a bit of produce, flowers, and souvenirs also added to the mix.

Garyuu no Sato (Miya) - 600 yen- Located right along the 41 between Takayama and Miya. Great place to go for a cheap but enjoyable soak!

These markets are the best places to buy local products and also some souvenirs, especially on the one located along the Miyagawa River.

This market situated along the east bank of the Miyagawa River is bigger and I believe geared more towards the tourists.
