Otaru’s Sankaku Market is a must-visit in Hokkaido 🇯🇵. Its conveniently right next to the Otaru JR station and in one street are stalls after stalls of seafood vendors and restaurants. How much did your Hokkaido Kaisendon cost in Otaru? In my quest to find the best value Kaisendon in Hokkaido, I explored one of Otaru, Hokkaido’s most touristy spots, the Sankaku Market. Many restaurants in that area offer Kaisendon for around 3000 yen or more, but this gem offers the best bang for your buck at just 2500 yen. While there are other restaurants around this high-traffic tourist area ...

Reviews Summary

Sankaku Market is a seafood lover's paradise, praised for its incredibly fresh catches, especially the highly sought-after king crab and delicious kaisendon. Visitors enjoy the vibrant atmosphere and the authentic local experience. While the quality is exceptional, some find it to be on the pricier side and note that it's primarily a tourist-focused market.

"Just a short hop from Otaru Station, after our scenic hour-long journey from Sapporo on the JR Hakodate Line (making excellent use of our 21-day JR Pass!), we found ourselves at the bustling Sankaku Market. Following a brief wander through the market's vibrant stalls, the enticing aromas led us to Otaru Takeda Seafood Restaurant. Even at 8 AM on a Sunday, this popular spot was teeming with eager diners, and we quickly joined the queue, a testament to its reputation. The anticipation was well worth it for the delicious breakfast that followed!"

CK Tan

"Very narrow alley selling lots of seafood. Targeted at tourists. They sell huge crabs and other seafood, including dried seafood products.

The alley is on a slope. There are also a few eating places, selling kaisendon.

There is paid parking nearby at the top of the alley.

Recommended if you are in the area, for the atmosphere and vibes!"

Ron Yang

"Sankaku Market is amazing for seafood lovers! Everything is super fresh, and the seafood bowls are loaded with flavor. Most important price is reasonable. The live scallop was unforgettable — sweetness and freshness on another level. Definitely a must-try if you’re here. Fuiyoh"

Overnight Trip To Otaru – Historic Port City In Hokkaido

It’s probably a no-brainer that visitors to Otaru can look forward to consuming fresh seafood when in the port city. There are a total of 9 markets in the compact city, and Sankaku Market (小樽三角市場) is the most convenient for tourists like us, because of its superb accessibility!. The fresh seafood market is only a quick 3-min walk from Otaru Station, regardless whether you take the short flight of steps shown in the earlier section, or along the main road.

8 Best Things to do in Otaru on a Day Trip

Right next to Otaru Station is Sankaku Market, where fresh seafood is found in abundance. Not as large as the likes of Nijo Market in Sapporo, this market only has a couple of alleyways full of vendors hawking fresh seafood. I have a tough time deciding what to eat at the best of times (my friends laugh at me for exploring Instagram geotags at restaurants every time we go out to eat), so my indecisiveness appreciates the narrow selection.
