Reviews Summary

Yaekatsu is celebrated for its authentic kushikatsu, with fresh ingredients expertly fried to perfection. Diners praise the delicious skewers, especially the recommended prawn and shishamo, as well as the rich doteyaki beef tendon stew. While the atmosphere is lively and the experience unique, be prepared for potential queues during peak times. Some reviews mention a fast-paced environment and a strict policy against phone use while dining.

"DEC 2024

The restaurant was quite busy when I visited after lunch hours. Waited in line for about 15mins to get a seat, however there was no line when I finished so it depends on luck. Ordered about a dozen fried skewers to try out of the 30 or so variety of meat, seafood and vegetables from the menu. The skewers are deep fried to order so they were fresh and piping hot. The coating was thin with bits of flaky crumbs, very tasty with the sweet sauce; and the side of cabbage was essential as a palate cleanser to cut through the greasiness. Also had the miso stewed beef tendon which was rich and creamy, pretty good. It was busy and fast pace but service was good."

"Funny story that I had intended to go try Tengu (next door), but ended up in the wrong queue for this instead.

It was mostly locals and there were abt 30 guests queuing even before it open at 10.30am. Food quality was good and the atmosphere was great. Feels like a place which the local community supports and everyone's just here for a good time in a rainy weekend morning."

Xunxiang Li

"Found this place on tabelog and filled with good reviews from locals and decided to pay it a visit.
Arrived at 11am and the queue was filled with mostly locals. The queue took around 30-40mins in total. The place came with a menu which had English on it too.
This is the best kushikatsu I’ve tried, each stick was beautifully coated and fried to perfection. Each bite did not felt overly oily and ingredients used were really fresh. I recommend trying out the prawn and shishamo skewers."

A Chefs Pick Of Osakas Best Restaurants

Kushikatsu, Japanese-style deep-fried meat and vegetables on skewers, is one of Osaka’s most popular dishes. Said to have originated in glitzy Shinsekai – where Yaekatsu is based – kushikatsu is as much a part of Osaka as stand-up comedy or drinking. A side dish called doteyaki – long boiled beef gristle with miso – is also worth trying.

Osaka Shinsekai: Cheap Dining and Plenty of Atmosphere

Out of all the different kushi-katsu establishments in Shinsekai, one always has a conspicuously long line outside its entrance: Yaekatsu. Still, kushi-katsu joints are known for their quick diner turnover, with most people being able to get in within 30 minutes, so we recommend braving the line and waiting to try their skewers. The counter at Yaekatsu is lined with fresh food, and seeing the staff fry up what you just picked out really gets your mouth watering.
