What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners rave about the unique and delicious gyukatsu experience, where you grill your own tender beef cutlets. The set meals are praised for their quality and value, featuring fresh ingredients like rice, miso soup, and various dipping sauces. While many find it 'worth the wait,' some suggest arriving early or trying off-peak hours to avoid long queues and the cramped waiting area.
"We visited the Namba branch on a hot afternoon and had an amazing experience. The restaurant is tucked away downstairs in a cool, air-conditioned basement — a nice escape from the summer heat. We got lucky arriving mid-afternoon with no line at all (normally, you might wait 30–60 minutes at peak times). The vibe was relaxed, the staff were super friendly, and English menus made it easy to order, even if you don’t speak Japanese.
The highlight here is the gyukatsu — tender, rare beef cutlets you grill yourself on a mini hot stone. It’s simple and satisfying to sear each slice just how you like it. The beef was juicy, flavour-packed, and the breading was light and crispy without being greasy. We ordered the full set meal, which came with rice, miso soup, pickled vegetables, shredded cabbage with potato salad, tororo (grated yam), and two dipping sauces — sesame and soy. Everything was fresh, well-balanced, and delicious. The sesame sauce was a personal favourite, and the little mochi dessert at the end was the perfect sweet finish.
Overall, Gyukatsu Motomura totally lived up to the hype. The food was fantastic, the concept was fun, and the service was smooth and welcoming. It’s tourist-friendly without feeling like a tourist trap. If you’re planning to visit, definitely aim for off-peak hours to skip the crowds. We left full, happy, and already talking about coming back!

"They accept walk-ins, but reservations are recommended. We were seated and served promptly. The service was friendly and informative, and the quality of the meat was excellent—very tender. They also provide a nice selection of dipping sauces and garnishes. The small dessert included with the tray was light, delicate, and left me wanting more."

"Such a warming vibe and atmosphere. Everyone was very hospitable and friendly.
The gyukatsu was amazing. Juicy and tender enough that you can eat it as is. I appreciate the fact that you get one free refill of rice and can order extra meat. This place is worth the wait (small place that can only seat 18). If you can eat I recommend at least a 1.5 serving."

OSAKA WITH KIDS
And if you’re looking for a bit of a lush dinner or lunch with a reasonable price tag at a restaurant that also allows children in Namba, I recommend Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu Namba Sennichimae for Kobe Beef and Wagyu. It’s a Beef Cutlet restaurant. It is high quality beef, crumbed and fried so that the outside is crunchy and served with a range of sauces (dipping sauces) and rice.

Must-Try Osaka Foods: Top Restaurants and Dishes You Can't Miss
This uniquely Osaka restaurant is hard to find elsewhere, and I've recommended it to many friends. The beef cutlets are fried on the outside, then you grill them further in a small pot at your table, achieving the perfect crispy-yet-tender texture. I've had gyukatsu in Tokyo and Kyoto, but the meat quality here in Osaka was the most tender and fresh.
