Insider Tips

from TikTok, Instagram & Reddit

Sushi Hayashi was the best omakase I’ve ever experienced. 21-courses, with only 8 seats per night, we lucked out with a last-minute reservation. The chef and his wife — were unbelievably warm, gracious, and attentive. An unforgettable final night in Kyoto

Reviews Summary

Sushi Hayashi is lauded as an exceptional omakase experience with impeccable service and high-quality ingredients, often called the best meal ever had. Diners rave about the unique flavor combinations and the warm, family-like atmosphere. While overwhelmingly positive, one reviewer noted a peculiar taste in a specific dish and expected a more upscale ambiance for the price point.

"BEST MEAL I HAVE EVER HAD<3 We are here on our honeymoon and my husband wanted to try an omakase experience, I found this online and I booked it. I had no idea it was going to be as delicious meal. The staff was very friendly and the chef was so kind and answered all our questions. It was our first time at an omakase restaurant and we loved every second of it. I 1000% recommend to come here and try the plum wine if you like something sweet to drink. Every bite we had was so delicious. When it ended we asked if we could have a second round 😜. If you’re in Kyoto this place is a must try."

The 16 Best Sushi Restaurants to Visit While in Kyoto

Awarded one Michelin star for three consecutive years from 2021 to 2023, “Sushi Hayashi” is a hideaway sushi restaurant in the quiet heart of Kyoto, just north of Kyoto Gosho (Kyoto Imperial Palace), where Japanese emperors once resided. The owner, Hayashi, established his career at hotels in Switzerland and at “Sushi Wakon,” a one-star Michelin restaurant (from 2018 to 2021) located within the first-class “Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto.”. Fueled by a strong desire to serve fresh, locally sourced fish, Sushi Hayashi searches out ingredients from nearby regions in the Kansai area such as Mie, Wakayama, and Awaji Island.
