Diners rave about Hassun's authentic Kyoto-style Kaiseki, praising the exquisite flavors, high-quality ingredients like fresh sashimi, and the intimate counter-seating experience. While many find the lunch course a great value, some have noted that English proficiency can be limited, and a few have experienced a noticeable difference in service between Japanese and foreign guests.
"We had a wonderful here! We really enjoyed all the dinner from start to finish. This restaurant operates for 50 years and were really happy to dine here. We got a counter sit and all the meals were prepared in front of us and they were really tasty overall. The same paired well with the food and it was a great experience. Portions were towards small but overall I didn’t leave hungry."

"We booked lunch at the Michelin-starred Kaiseki restaurant "Hassun" in Gion through Amex. It cost 11,000 yen per person (dinner was about 20,000-30,000 yen). This was one of the most delicious meals we had in 9 days’ trip in Japan. Each dish was seasoned just right and would not cover up the taste of the ingredients themselves. The most impressive thing was the sashimi, which was made from fresh Striped Jack, also known as 縞鯵, and is one of the top raw fish dishes. There was also the long-lost turtle soup (all Fujianese know that the soup is fragrant and mellow, and the turtle skirt is chewy and delicious. My mother's eyes lit up when she ate it). The rest of the ingredients were mainly different tofu, fish, vegetables and mushrooms. The amount of food was not small. After finishing nine dishes, we were so full and satisfied. Btw, there were two young assistants chefs who could speak some English and they told us the ingredients before serving them to us."
