This old-style soba noodle shop two blocks south of Tenryu-ji Temple sits right in the thick of things and has a splendid view of the river. Feel free to relax on a cushion and face the river while you recharge before visiting your next temple. The tempura comes highly recommended.

Arashiyama Yoshimura is very famous Japanese soba( Japanese brown noodles made from buckwheat flour)restaurant where you can enjoy the beautiful scenery of Togetsu bridge. Must-Try menu is “Togetsuzen/渡月膳(1,880 yen)” which includes soba,tempura don and Kyo-tsukemono(Kyoto-style pickles). You can enjoy smooth and al dente texture Japanese soba and crispy fresh tempura.

The counter seats facing Togetsu-kyo bridge are surrounded by glass windows in 3 directions, giving this soba restaurant an amazing view of Arashiyama and the Katsuragawa River. Buckwheat grains are coarsely ground to give this shop’s delicious handmade Nihachi soba a delicious texture. Jyuwari soba, served in limited quantities daily, is also worth a try.

Arashiyama Yoshimura – As the name suggests, this restaurant is located in Arashiyama. Its location is incredibly convenient, being along the Hozugawa River in the heart of this tourist area, and a 5-minute walk from Kyoto Monkey Park. The two-story location has an upstairs counter with windows that overlook the river, bridge, and mountains.

A significant aspect of Yoshimura's novelty is their practice of making their soba from scratch every morning with wheat flower that's ground up using a millstone. The restaurant is also situated in a wonderful scenic location with a view of Togetsukyo Bridge, one of the major sightseeing attractions of Arashiyama.

Kyoto is known for tofu restaurants and there are quite a few in this area, we tried one on the last trip with all dishes made of tofu. With our daughter this time, we decided to have lunch at a more casual place. When we arrived at early 11 AM, there was already a waitlist and we waited about 15 minutes.

When out in Arashiyama, try fresh soba with buckwheat from nearby Kobe. I made the mistake of walking up without a reservation or at least having put my name on the list. After a three-hour wait and lots of exploring, we enjoyed an excellent cold soba lunch with tempura veggies and shrimp.
