Reviews Summary

Akaishi Shokudo is celebrated for its exceptionally delicious and affordable Okinawan soba, particularly the pork rib variant. Diners rave about the tender meat and rich broth, with many calling it the best they've ever had. While the intimate atmosphere and friendly service are appreciated, be prepared for significant wait times, as the restaurant is very popular among locals and tourists alike.

"Absolutely worth the wait. Put your name down at door. Only 4 dishes but all well done. The small and medium sizes are more than adequate sizes. The solid soba is to die for. No wonder people are prepared to wait. Open only from 11am to 3pm."

"Small little intimate place, but the food was just out of this world. Get the pork ribs soba. Best soba I've had in Okinawa."

"I came here because friends took me telling that is the best soba in the island. A lot of people outside waiting because so popular among tourists. I agree with people saying that this is an example of place became famous because of socials and not for the quality of the food. I must say I was disappointed about food. The pork inside the soba was very tender but mainly fat. The taste of the plate was excessively sweet and is easy to say that the famous secret in the recipe is that they marinate meat in the pineapple juice and maybe some sugar cane. The pasta dough was not chewy enough or probably overcooked. I'm not an expert of yaeyama soba but I know food and I must say that I had better in other places on the island."

Top 5 Restaurants in Ishigaki

This local kitchen is only open 3 days a week between Fridays and Sundays, in true Okinawa style - their signature is the “Soki Soba”, served with a large and juicy portion of pork on top of thick noodles, but personally recommend their “Katsudon” (pork cutlet on rice). Walk-in only (best to queue 20 minutes before open time to avoid a long wait). Website | Tabelog | Google Maps
