Oyster ship Kanawa

Kanawa Oyster Boat is situated less than a five-minute walk from the Atomic Bomb Dome, and is moored by the river, offering scenic views opposite the Peace Memorial Park from its traditional low tables and tatami flooring. This floating restaurant sources its oysters from the Okurokamijima area of Hiroshima, where you’ll find some of the cleanest waters in the Seto Inland Sea. One of the more expensive dining options for oysters in Hiroshima, the restaurant offers a special set menu priced at ¥12,000 (£90) per person which includes a selection of appetizers, grilled oyster, oyster and apple gratin, fried oysters, tempura oyster and oyster hot pot with miso.

Hiroshima is known for its oysters, and Kanawa, on a barge moored on the Motoyasu-gawa, gets its oysters from a particularly salty area of the Inland Sea. It's believed that these waters impart the firm flesh and sweet, robust taste that loyal customers love to splurge on. It's not cheap, but the oysters are worth every yen.

We only use oysters caught off the coast of Daikoku Kamishima, an uninhabited island in Setouchi, which is designated as a clean sea area of the prefecture. Because of the high concentration of salt in the sea area, it is characterized by its tightness and strong sweetness. There are a variety of courses where you can enjoy Kanawa's typical oyster dishes, such as fried oysters and pot, as well as a variety of single dishes.

Each floor has a different taste, the first floor is “Seto” where you can casually enjoy authentic Japanese food, and the second floor is “Wakyu” where you can relax and enjoy a luxurious dish in a private room.
