What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Mentetsu garners praise for its authentic ramen, especially its unique tomato noodles and vegan options. Diners appreciate the trendy atmosphere and efficient, friendly service. However, some reviews mention the soup can be a bit too salty, and occasionally the meat can be tough, with a few instances of frozen desserts.
"Mentetsu is really good restaurant that served normal AND vegan ramen dishes. They normally make the dishes with Himeji brown wheat noodle, but I asked for a gluten-free option, so they substituted rice noodles for me. For the vegan ramen, you can choose from four broths: soy, salty, miso, or curry. I had the miso, and it was very tasty and a perfect level of salty.
Another member of my party had the Tororo ramen with beef and a boiled egg. The dish also came with what appeared to be egg white froth that you poured into your ramen. The dish was also served with an additional bowl of white rice on which you pour the broth of your soup to enjoy.
The staff gave us each a complimentary dessert, which was a square of ice cream encased in a square cone covered in what seemed like a light chocolate powder. It was good, but likely not vegan.
The restaurant was clean with fast and friendly service. I highly reccommend eating here!"

"Vegan ramen available! Miso vegan ramen broth is very good. Unfortunately the soft boiled eggs were overcooked and not marinated, and the noodles were below average.
Nice location with friendly staff. Good prices, pay at counter. Bathroom available."

"Ramen joint serving miso, shoyu, tomatoes and Tonkatsu ramen, hot or cold. My Tonkatsu ramen was tasty but the meat was tough and rubbery offcuts.
They always serve a small side plate of pork and some mochi for desert, but we couldn't eat our mochi because it was still frozen.
They are quite assertive to get you in the door. If you so much as look at the exterior the staff will rush out to try and convince you to come in. This reminded me more of travelling in Europe."
