If you want a sit-down dining experience, the restaurant Kakiya on the main shopping street is hard to beat. But we also like the small corner shops selling freshly grilled oysters to eat while standing for a few hundred yen each. If you really want to eat a lot, and if you are visiting during the time of the year when oysters are in season (generally November to February but this varies from year to year), there are also a few shops offering all you can eat menus for as little as 2,300 yen per person.

Kakiya (牡蠣屋) is the only Michelin-recommended restaurant on the island, and one of the most popular food spots in Miyajima specialising in the prized shellfish. Their Kakiya Set features grilled oysters in their shells, deep-fried oysters, preserved oysters, steamed oysters on rice, oyster miso soup, as well as their house salad with Japanese pickles. The grilled variety is exceptionally delicious—fat, juicy, and flavourful.

Make a trip down to the stylish Kaki-ya restaurant for its highly-acclaimed yet reasonably priced oyster dishes in Miyajima!. The best way to sample Kaki-ya’s line-up of oyster dishes is to order the “Kaki-ya teishoku”. It is a set meal that includes 2 yaki-gaki (grilled oysters), small servings of kaki-furai (breaded and fried oysters), oysters pickled in oil, and kaki-meshi (oysters on rice).

A specialty oyster restaurant located in the center of Miyajima Omotesando Shotengai (a shopping street) that leads to Itsukushima shrine. The mainstay here is ”Jigozen oysters” known as one of the highest, premium quality of Hiroshima Prefecture famous oysters. Step in for a bite with the lightest of seasonings, a testament to just how good Kakiya oysters are.

I don’t remember the source but Miyajima Island was described as having some of the best oysters in Hiroshima, which makes sense considering it’s an island in Hiroshima Bay. My research for the best oysters in Miyajima led me to two places – Kakiya and Yakigaki No Hayashi. I went with the former and ordered the Kakiya set which came with several oyster dishes.

Only a 5-minute walk from Miyajima Port, Kakiya specializes in oysters procured in Miyajima. The chef skillfully cooks each and every dish, getting involved in every step of the process, from the selection of ingredients to their preparation. Customers will no doubt enjoy watching the chef grilling oysters over charcoal on the grill to the side of the counter.

Another excellent spot on Miyajima Island, Kakiya is a stylish restaurant offering premium oyster dishes. Their oyster rice bowl and oyster chowder are highly recommended. If you're looking for a refined dining experience with locally sourced oysters, Kakiya is a great choice.

This popular restauraut “Kakiya” was once listed on the Michelin Guide. Each oyster farmed locally in a rich environment of Hiroshima is quite big, and has natural sweetness. They do not use too much seasonings so that you can get the real taste of natural oysters.

It is known as the oysters’ specialty store where you can enjoy all oysters in Hiroshima and Miyajima. It is the only oyster restaurant in Miyajima that specializes in oysters. You can buy grilled oysters and lanterns for ¥ 300 (tax included).

For a taste of Miyajima's renowned seafood, Kakiya and Yakigaki-no-Hayashi are famous for their grilled oysters. For a more comprehensive dining experience, visit Ueno; famous for its anagomeshi, a boxed meal of grilled conger eel over rice.
