From there, the lake stretches north to Togendai, beyond which is Sengokuhara and, at the third point on the triangle, Gotemba. Heading back to Hakone-Yumoto, you’ll pass Gora and Miyanoshita.

From Lake Ashi (that is, from the villages of Togendai, Hakone-machi, or Moto-Hakone), you can then board a bus bound for Odawara Station (a 1-hr. ride), where you board the train back to Tokyo. These same buses also pass by all the recommendations listed below, which is useful if you wish to complete most of your sightseeing the first day before going to your hotel for the evening. A bus runs directly between Togendai and Shinjuku in about 2 hours (fare: ¥1,960).

Located in Togendai Station, this restaurant offers grilled dishes while you watch pirate ships passing by through large, open windows. Expected to remain one of the popular hakone restaurants with a view in 2025, it offers unique dining experiences. On clear days, the colorful pirate ships against the blue sky and Lake Ashi create perfect photo opportunities.

From Owakudani catch the ropeway down to Togendai on the edge of Lake Ashinoko. The best way to enjoy the lake is from the pirate ships (Yes Pirate ships! I told you the kids would love this) that ferry passengers from Togendai-ko port to the other side of lake Ashinoko (ports Hakonemachi-ko or Motohakone-ko). Pirate ship timetables can be found here.

After the Hakone Pirate Ship arrives at Togendai (OH65), we will go to Togendai View Restaurant, located in the terminal building. The restaurant has a beautiful view of Lake Ashi, which you can gaze out at as you enjoy a tasty meal. The most popular menu item is the Fluffy Rice Omelette that comes with a salad (1,200 yen including tax).

Once you arrive at the Togendai-ko, grab lunch at the Togendai View Restaurant. Here, you can enjoy authentic grilled dishes cooked over charcoal and Western cuisine made with local ingredients. Popular menu items include fluffy omelet rice and hamburg steak made with rice and eggs from Gotemba.

This restaurant is located in the Ashigarashimo District, within Togendai Terminal where Hakone Pirate Ship Togendai Port is at. You will be able to enjoy international cuisines while overlooking Lake Ashi. Don’t forget to have some dorayaki (Japanese red-bean pancake) and sweet potato to-go.

Togendai port has only snacks unless you walk down a little to Kojiri. Hakonemachi port house has a fast food soba right after disembarking and a regular restaurant inside. Moto-Hakone-ko has a snack shop, i.e soft ice cream cone.

Togendai View Plaza: Located around Lake Ashi, this plaza has a souvenir store where you can find interesting items such as wood crafts, clothes, and accessories at reasonable prices.

We were able to see Mt Fuji in all its glory on our right and a picturesque view of Lake Ashi on our left as we descended to Togendai station.

We’ve decided that the ship won’t be sailing so we just went out took photos of it. When we went back inside, a lone was already forming.
