Piacevole trattoria familiare nel quartiere semi-centrale Borgo Filippi, piena di oggetti vintage che la rendono accogliente e caratteristica. A questi si affiancano molte bottiglie, che palesano una certa propensione al buon bere: la selezione vini è assai valida e la cantina, originaria del 1200, è visitabile su richiesta. Il menù è variegato e incentrato su di una linea regionale veneta, con molti classici come la pasta e fagioli o il baccalà alla “Bersagliere”, a cui si aggiungono piatti dal gusto nazionale.

A bit off the tourist track, Trattoria al Bersagliere serves traditional Veronese dishes in its shabby chic Filippini location. We dined here at the suggestion of our friend Mila Ulchenko, a travel writer who lived in Verona for several years, and it did not disappoint. Under those circumstances, we both managed to eat heaping plates of Risotto all’Amarone red wine due to the menu’s two-person minimum requirement for Verona’s signature dish, we were tempted to order dishes like Polenta with Homemade Salumi and Bigoli with Duck Sauce instead.

Just steps from the Arena, this comfortable and well-furnished typical table is adorned with a beautiful internal garden. The cuisine is typical Veronese, based on careful selection of raw materials, especially cured meats and cheeses: salt cod salad, polenta and soppressa, Amarone risotto, bigoli with duck, pastissada de caval, mixed boiled meat with pearà, traditional diplomat, and English soup. The wine list is beautiful and interesting, with a particular focus on Valpolicella and spirits.

At Trattoria Al Bersagliere, less than 10 minutes walk from the Colomba d’Oro (a short but very pleasant walk, passing right next to the Arena), you can try this and many other traditional dishes (not only the Veronese tradition but also the Venetian one, for example the famous baccalà alla vicentina), cooked with love and passion following authentic family recipes, handed down from generation to generation. Here fine food and timeless charm are a given.

9 Slow Food At Al Bersagliere the friendly atmosphere is amplified by the greetings of locals to jovial proprietor Leo Ramponi. In the kitchen, his wife Marina conjures up traditional dishes such as the house speciality baccalà del Bersagliere – creamy cod with polenta. As befits Verona’s only Slow Food-endorsed restaurant, real care is taken over ingredients: there are 20+ olive oils to choose from.

If you are looking for some real traditional Veronese dishes then you won't have to search further than Trattoria Al Bersagliere. They have a small but charming dining room and friendly wait staff that make it a great place for a date. Some of their best dishes make a great dinner but they have nice options for brunch as well.
