Reviews Summary
Diners rave about Osteria al Carro Armato for its authentic Veronese delicacies, extensive regional wine selection, and old-school hospitality. The rustic ambiance and impeccable service contribute to a genuine Italian dining experience. However, some guests have noted that the facilities, particularly the restrooms, are basic and not modern.
"Tasty food served in an unfussy diner. The location is lovely. The prices are very reasonable. The waiter was great. Don't expect a red carpet rolled out and enjoy a great local restaurant!"

"Eat here. I've been coming to Verona for 25 years and have watched the high quality local restaurants been slowly replaced by generic "Italian" food. Here you get the best of both - proper Veronese delicacies and great Italian dishes. It's actually home made. Not "home made" in a microwave, but by Nonna. It's all fresh, made to order, freshly each day.
Service is impeccable - perfect balance of friendly and professional. Wines, liquors, desserts are excellent examples of local cuisine. And when I say "local", I mean world beating.
I particularly recommend the tortellini di zucca, which is exceptional. The polenta with cheese and fungi is the best I've had. Creme brulé is the dessert of choice for me, and apparently the tiramisu is fantastic - made by Nonna each morning.
It's plenty spacious, with comfortable wooden tables and a great aesthetic.
It's family friendly, even with children's seats and baby changing. Treat yourself, and eat the best food in Verona."

"Beautiful Osteria (with Art inside) in the heart of Verona. We had antipasti Prosciutto & Parmigiano, followed by polenta with horse ragout and a Bottle of Wine."

Restaurants in Verona
Recapture the spirit of yesteryear at Carro Armato, in a 14th-century palazzo at Vicolo Gatto 2A/Vicolo San Piero Martire (1 block south of Piazza Sant'Anastasia; tel. 045-803-0175), a great choice when you want to sit and sample some of 30 or so regional wines by the glass and make an informal meal out of fresh, inexpensive bar food. The wonderful old wine bar Enoteca dal Zovo, on Vicolo San Marco in Foro 7/5 (off Corso Porta Borsari near Caffè Tubino; tel. 045-803-4369), is run by Oreste, who knows everyone in town, and they all stop by for his excellent selection of Veneto wines. Salami, olives, and finger foods will help keep you vertical, since the few stools are always occupied by senior gentlemen who are as much a part of the fixtures as the hundreds of dusty bottles of wines and grappa that line the walls.
