Reviews Summary

Caffè Monte Baldo is a beloved Veronese osteria praised for its authentic local cuisine, extensive cicchetti selection, and exceptional wine list. Diners consistently highlight the knowledgeable and friendly service, making it a memorable experience. While generally excellent, some note that certain menu items or portion sizes might not align with older reviews, and recommend checking for current offerings.

"We were drawn in by the large selection of canapes / cicchetti / tapas this place have to offer, however the main restaurant was absolutely an amazing find with great service, interesting menus, and excellent food overall!

There are 2 parts within the place: for drinks and tapas, and the restaurant section which is separate.

The restaurant however has the 10 pcs selection of canapes which is pretty much the same thing! Those in combination with other dishes exceeded my expectations.

Selection of cheese and cold-cuts, and pork belly were particularly great as well!"

"I have visited Cafe Monte Baldo every time I’m in Verona and it is a wonderful experience. The staff are very welcoming, the waiters take their time to explain the food and especially the wine. They are very knowledgable about the wines and the region they are from. The food is absolutely amazing and the atmosphere is superb. I cant recommend this restaurant enough. It is a hidden gem in Verona. The owner even comes over and speaks with you and is so friendly. A great family run business. My family loved the experience and without a doubt this is my favourite place to eat and drink in Italy. We will be back as always.

Last visit - 18/02/25-23/02/25

Thank you so much for looking after us all the way from Scotland 🍷🥂🎉"

"They snuck us in for dinner close to their closing time, which was nice. They let us try some yummy toasts with spreads to begin. Then we all got pasta (squid ink tortellini was incredible!) with such a nice white wine from Verona. Then we finished with a very nice tiramisu and sorbet. The waiters were also very friendly and accommodating"

The Monte Baldo used to be a genteel, old-fashioned cafe until Gianni Vesenetini became the owner, and he has transformed it into a lively osteria, packed to bursting every lunchtime and evening. Locals flock here for the irresistible mix of reasonably priced food and affordable wines by the glass from dozens of bottles lined up on a long marble counter. For €5.50 you can choose between a surprising fusilli pasta with succulent artichokes, tuna and tomatoes or the classic lasagne alla bolognese.

Best Restaurants in Verona, Italy (2025 Guide)

Caffè Monte Baldo is one of the best restaurants in Verona’s historic center, seamlessly transitioning from a lively aperitivo spot to a cozy osteria and refined restaurant. Established in 1909, it retains its old-world charm with terrazzo flooring and mirrored boiserie, offering a warm and inviting atmosphere. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick glass of wine and their signature tartine—open-faced canapés that rival Venetian cicchetti—or settling in for a full meal, Monte Baldo caters to pretty much every dining desire.

Top 45 Dinner locations in Verona

Review written out of a vegans perspective: The restaurant looks beautiful, traditional and especially attracts omnis with little breads with all kinds of spreads and hams they have in their bar. I found one vegan option: pasta with vegetable ragu, dried tomatoes and a kind of pesto. It is normally with a whole wheat pasta but I asked for gluten free pasta and had it with gluten free spaghetti instead.

Around town, we also enjoyed some great food, such as the uniquely delicious "torta russa" cake at Pasticcerria Barria and small plates at the historic Osteria Monte Baldo. Overall, I was really happy for the chance to spend a few days in Verona. The main pedestrian areas were very busy in March, and I'd hate to see how crowded things become in the height of the summer tourist season.
