You can’t go to Venice without hitting a bacaro or three; here are some favorites: Vino Vero, flowing wine pairs with gourmet cicchetti; Ai Do Leoni draws the city's creatives for natural wine and small bites; and La Sete, with lots of natural wine from small producers around the world and obviously cicchetti. Bea Vita in Cannaregio elevates the traditional bacaro concept with live music performances and art exhibitions alongside their menu of seasonal specialties and natural wines.

According to Barbaglia,“[Vino Vero] is the place to go for wine in Venice.” Though its size may not be impressive, its menu certainly is: “It’s very small, but its selection is great. It has local wines, some natural wines, and it’s always on the search for something new.” The bar lies on Fondamenta Misericordia opposite the Chiesa di San Marziale – grab one of the outside tables on the canal. Prices are quite reasonable, with wines available by the glass as well as the bottle.

This canal-side Cannaregio spot named “true wine” takes its expertly-curated, ever-changing selection of wine offerings seriously, yet without any sip of pretence. An oft-Instagrammed sign highlights the passion, “No Spritz because we love wine,” and playfully sets the tone. Grab a window seat at Vino-Vero for a view of the main attraction, wine bottles stacked all the way to the ceiling, along with a peek into life along the canal.

Swing by this pint-sized wine bar for cicheti and crostini that are just a bit different and fresher than what you'll find elsewhere, along with a fine selection of natural wines. Though there's not much space inside, try to snag one of the coveted seats by the canal.

Vino Vero, opened in 2014 by 4 friends, including Matteo Bartoli wine producer in Tuscany, the region from which most of the products used in the kitchen comes from, offers excellent biodynamic and organic wines (spritz is not served). The selection of gourmet cicchetti is truly excellent and, in addition to the traditional ones, we find unusual ingredients such as wild boar salami, goat robiola, dried tomatoes, honey or avocado. One of the chicest bacari in Venice, a successful combination of design and tradition, in the summer it offers the opportunity to sit on the tables along the Rio della Misericordia from which, thanks to the fortunate position kissed by the sun, you can enjoy a beautiful sunset.

Vino Vero ("real wine") is nestled along a quiet canal in the neighborhood of Canareggio. The sleek, standing-room-only (unless you're lucky enough to snag one of few stools in the window) storefront skews towards eclectic natural styles, and Bisol describes it as "one of the two best bars" for adventurous eaters and drinkers. Proprietors regularly rotate by-the-glass selections which they sell to a young, fashionable set who spill outside to socialize while snacking on fresher cicchetti than the competition.

Located on Fondamenta Misericordia in the less-trafficked district of Cannareggio, the small but chic Vino Vero has been delighting both locals and tourists alike since its inception in 2014. It only has a few tables on the canal and a couple of chairs inside, otherwise it’s standing only. Modern light fixtures and a custom wood bar perfectly complement the selection of delectable artisanal cicchetti including fried calamari, anchovies with butter, stuffed zucchini flowers, and liver pâté.

This tiny bacaro had been on my radar since I was last in Venice, and I knew I had to bite the bullet and check it out for myself. While I could have sat inside and admired the gorgeous wooden interiors all day, they only had a handful of stools, so I opted for the outdoor seating area on the canal.

Another win for the Cannaregio neighborhood, Vino Vero, which translates to "real wine," has attracted a loyal following of natural, organic, and offbeat wine drinkers since 2014. With its charming location along the canal and eclectic rotating wine list, the bar tends to fill up earlier than its area peers. A young and fashionable crowd spills onto the sidewalk to socialize while snacking on fresh, creative cicchetti.

Vino Vero is a tiny bacaro, a traditional tavern, brought bang up to date with an enticing range of natural wines that are listed on a blackboard above the bar to accompany a simple but delicious offering of cicchetti. The scintillating sparklers, made using the ancestral method, are worthy of investigation but the best bet is to trust those behind the bar to lead you on an energising voyage of discovery.

Opened in 2014, ‘Vino Vero’' means ‘real wine’ – another way of saying natural wine – and is Venice’s first enoteca dedicated solely to the natural stuff. The owners take their ‘real wine’ commitment so seriously that ‘no spritz’ is not only scrawled on a blackboard inside the teensy bar room, but the phrase also doubles as the Wi-Fi password. Seating is first come, first served.

Place your order at the counter in the wine bar’s tiny space, choosing cicchetti like baccalà mantecato or mortadella with pistachio pesto and wines by the glass or bottle, which line the walls, floor to ceiling. One of the more modern bàcari, Vino Vero is where you’ll find some of the most delicious and traditional food in Venice. The presentation of cicchetti here is absolutely stunning – so much so that you’ll definitely want to pull your phone out and take some pictures. The cicchetti topped with fried calamari and lemon juice is my favorite – it’s so fresh and crunchy!

Vino Vero is a trendy wine bar and retail shop that serves curated biodynamic wines by the category’s most exciting producers. Pop by in the early afternoon to nibble on some cicchetti, and have one of the bar’s knowledgeable bartenders taste you on a few of their unique “by the glass” wine options. With canal-side tables, it’s a vibe in the best way possible.

Halfway between wine bar, wine shop and bacaro, it has natural wines as its focus, and was the first in Venice to follow suit. The staff is young and competent, capable of illustrating and advising at its best, especially when it comes to pairings. Crostini are never banal, try the ones with hummus, sun-dried tomatoes, burrata cheese and smoked paprika.

For this, walk to Vino Vero, a chilled canalside spot that refuses to sell spritz but instead pours a great selection of wine. It’s a few minutes down from something of an institution, a bustling taverna called Il Paradiso Perduto. Order a massive plate of seafood pasta and a liter of house white, and be prepared to have it slammed down on the table.

By the time I reached Vino Vero on a cold, soggy evening, the crowd had spilled out onto the sidewalk, nearly reaching the canal. The patrons at Vino Vero are distinctly younger and cooler than the rest of Venice, but in a way, I loved it for that. Vino Vero manages to stay warm and welcoming without skewing into too-hip-for-my-own-good territory.

In only a few years, Vino Vero has become quite a reference point for the natural wine world. The name of the wine bar derives from one of the Italian definitions of natural wine and their popularity has grown so much they are opening soon another bar in Lisbon. The location in F.ta della Misericordia is bright and illuminated with natural light.

Vino Vero sits along Fondamenta de la Misericordia, a lively canal-side street filled with bars and eateries, and came highly recommended by our hotel (Hotel Flora). It’s a fantastic spot for high-quality wines and an assortment of delicious cicchetti. There are a few tables by the canal for a scenic view, but otherwise, it’s standing room only.

Vino Vero – The coolest natural wine bar in town (and one of the first), Vino Vero has offerings by the glass or by the bottle–as well as a full case of fantastic crostini–along a canal in Cannaregio. You can expect a bit of a wait for one of their few tables, but we don’t mind sitting out in the street with our legs dangling above the water.

Or down near Port dell’Accademia, you’ll find the revered Enoteca, Cantine del Vino gia Schiavi, where a vast selection of cicchetti is often topped with pretty garnishes such as dried herbs or even flowers. Wherever you go, check opening times as some of the bars, including the must-visit Arco, are only open during the daytime.

This wine bar boasts an excellent selection of over 600 natural, biodynamic, and small-producer wines. The bar is known for its delicious cicchetti, such as sarde e saor with edible flowers, cured tuna with citrus zest, and gorgonzola with walnuts. The atmosphere is relaxed but buzzy, making it feel like a real hidden gem.

If you’re looking for some more modern food offerings, Vino Vero is a perfect choice. With an impressive selection of local and regional wines as well as a more unusual selection of cicchetti, this establishment stands out from the crowd of similar bars down this canal-side street. It’s definitely worth a visit.

We also had great experiences at Vino Vero, TiME Social Bar, and Ombra del Leone. For dinner, the people at Al Grill were very friendly to Alice and the food was good (but heavy). After weeks of French and Italian food, I was craving Mexican, so I tried a place called Iguana, which wasn’t bad!.

Vino Vero has a great wine list but the service tends to be super condescending and the markup on their wines makes my eyes water. Estro is nice for contemporary cuisine with a great wine list, though frankly the food could be better. Tonolo just down the street is legendary for pastries.

Vino Vero was the first wine bar in Venice to exclusively serve natural wines. This unassuming spot next to a canal is now a favorite among many Venetian locals and in-the-know wine-o’s. The minimalist décor, exposed brick and stripped-down tables give Vino Vero an overall hipster vibe.

WHENEVER I’M IN VENICE, I MAKE A BEELINE FOR THE CICCHETTI CASE. Though often described as the Venetian answer to tapas, they are so much more!. Tiny little bites, entire feasts assembled atop humble bits of bread… I get sentimental just thinking about them.

I probably spent most of my drinking hours here during one trip to Venice. Located just around the corner from La sete, Vino Vero is always bustling. The canal-side joint has only a few tables inside but plenty of outside seating.

It’s a local wine bar and shop with a great selection of natural wines paired with local meals like Cicchetti. It’s an ideal place to meet up with friends and enjoy an evening out in Venice and is open until late.

Italy is famed for its wines, and the Veneto region around Venice produces some great ones, including the white Soave, and reds Bardolino and Valpolicello. The best table wines in the region tend to be the whites.

CANTINE DEL VINO GIÀ SCHIAVI: Located in the Dorsoduro Sestiere, this place is one of the most ancient ones and probably the one with the best wine;

Vino – Wine, white “bianco”, red “rosso” or just order a prosecco, as this lightly sparking wine is made in the Veneto region so is always good.

Another great place to unwind is Vino Vero in the Giudecca Canal area, known for its extensive wine list and organic offerings.
