The luxurious Osteria Bancogiro lies inside one of the world’s earliest banks – a loan and credit system provided to Venetian merchants in advance of their international trading expeditions. Today, this charming spot, with interior vaulted ceilings, serves excellent cicchetti and an exemplary spritz. The main draw, however, is the large outdoor seating area that overlooks the Grand Canal; here, you can sit for hours while people-watching and admiring some of the oldest palazzi in the city on the bank opposite.

The cramped premises under the arches of the 16th-century 'Fabbriche Vecchie' building were once used as storerooms by market traders, but became nightlife central in the early 2000s. Mostly a restaurant these days, the trailblazing Bancogiro is still a good spot for joining locals for a glass from the wine selection in the tiny downstairs bar, or, in summer, at a table on campo Erbaria outside, with its superb Grand Canal view. Order a bottle and a plate of good cichetti and you're in aperitivo heaven.

I would return for lunch or dinner in the future, but it was a delight to chill out on the terrace with only a few other tables being served -- wonderful location

Five bistros – Osteria Banco Giro, Ancòra, Osteria Al Pesador, Caffè Vergnano 1882 Rialto and Naranzaria – share the prime location like one big living room, where you can stand in the campo to feast on one side, or pay more to sit at a table and gaze at the Grand Canal on the other. They all serve different variations of cicchetti. Banco Giro has transformed from 17th-century bank to 21st-century osteria, and stands out with its fluffy homemade baccalà mantecato, a Venetian standard made from Norwegian stockfish, which is creamed and spread on crostini.

Osteria Bancogiro has a fascinating history that makes it one of the coolest Venice wine bars. Centuries ago, the archway close to the venue was where rich Venetians ordered their messengers to collect their credits and pay off their debts, so they didn’t have to do it themselves. Today, it’s a gorgeous wine bar with a sun-kissed outdoor terrace where you can watch the world go by as you take it easy.

L’Osteria Bancogiro, situated next to the Rialto Bridge in historic Venice, offers a delightful culinary experience. Osteria Bancogiro is a traditional Venetian bacaro and restaurant close to the Rialto Market. It’s my absolute favorite place in Venice for several things including aperitivo, dinner, cicchetti, and post-dinner drinks in Piazza Erbaria on the Grand Canal (on the backside of the restaurant). Osteria Bancogiro is informal and casual yet refined at the same time.

Osteria Bancogiro is less than a 30-second walk from the Rialto Bridge. It’s situated right alongside the canal, overlooking Cannaregio across the water, but it’s also close to a small square where you can take your kids if they need a little run-around. The indoor dining area is quite elegant and ambient, making it more suited to families with older children.

Just off the RialtoBridge is Bancogiro, one of the city’s best-loved bars and cicchetti spots, housed in a seventeenth-century bank. Grab a drink and a plate offood, then stand out in the square for a great atmosphere, or head through an alley to sit at one of the canal-side tables and stare up at one of Venice’s most famous bridges.

Next time I visit I would be keen to have lunch on the terrace at the Gritti Palace which I am told is a wonderful place to watch venice float by and I should also mention a restaurant by the Rialto bridge called Bancogiro which has one of the most romantic out door spots at night and serves some delicious food.

During the tour we stopped for cicchetti at Osteria Bancogiro. I enjoyed the cicchetti, especially black polenta with baccalà mantecato and the glass of Prosecco. The restaurant serves modern Venetian dishes and there is a canal-front terrace overlooking my personal favourite spot of Venice.

There is a spot that perfectly combines a fantastic view with a great meal. When Lajos and I were exploring Venice, we found ourselves right next to the iconic Rialto Bridge, a place you absolutely have to see in Venice. We were a little hungry, and that’s when we found Osteria Bancogiro.

Osteria Bancogiro has always been my favorite place for cicchetti in Venice for several reasons. The first is the location just off the Rialto Bridge in a cute square with tables spilling out on the backside onto Campo Erberia (one of the best places in Venice for after-dinner drinks).

Do Mori serves all the classics, but if you’re looking for something more inventive, nearby Bancogiro offers avant garde takes on the usual seafood preparations and polenta square toppings and Cantina do Spade offers a wider variety of plates.

Located just beside the Rialto Bridge, dining on Bancogiro’s outdoor terrace overlooking the Grand Canal is a moment you won’t soon forget. Their menu rotates to align with the flavours of the season and sees an updated wine list to match.

The name of the porch under which it is situated, Bancogiro, derives from the name of the first public bank in Europe, established here by the Republic of Venice in 1524.

Osteria Bancogiro– Near the Rialto bridge and I like all the different polenta cicheti they offer (like the black squid ink polenta) and I enjoy the view of the canal.

In the Rialto area I don't usually sit down and simply eat a couple of cicchetti standing and my usual places are Osteria all'Arco, al Merca' and Bancogiro.
