What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Il Ridotto offers an intimate fine-dining experience with imaginative, seafood-focused cuisine and attentive service, particularly noted for the staff like Sonia. While many praise the exquisite tasting menus and unique flavor combinations, a few diners have experienced issues with pacing and found some dishes to be uninspired or underseasoned, impacting the overall value for some.
"Il Ridotto provided one of the most extraordinary dining experiences we’ve ever had! We chose the seven-course dinner, and every dish was an absolute masterpiece, beautifully crafted and bursting with flavor. From the delicate starters to the decadent dessert, each plate was a perfect balance of tradition and innovation.
What truly elevated our evening, however, was the exceptional service from our waitress, Sonia. She was warm, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable, guiding us through the meal with enthusiasm and a genuine passion for the food. Her attention to detail made us feel completely cared for throughout the evening.
The intimate and welcoming ambiance of the restaurant, paired with Sonia’s outstanding hospitality and the impeccable quality of every dish, made this a night to remember. Il Ridotto is a must-visit for anyone in Venice seeking an unforgettable culinary adventure!"

"Had a fantastic meal here, highly recommended. It’s expensive, but very much worth the price - go for lunch if you want the best value.
Each course was beautifully presented and delicious. Expect portions to be smaller (plenty!) and the quality to be far above average, with attentive service. Their wine suggestions for local wines were perfectly matched to the meal - I had the Rabbit, my wife enjoyed the fish of the day, and we shared a very nice seafood pasta and a wonderfully simple dessert. Also had a very nice regional Vermouth."

"Overall this wasn't a bad experience but it wasn't a star worthy experience, in my opinion.
The service was excellent. The room was partitioned so the waiter had to keep popping in which gave the illusion of feeling rushed, but it wasn't. The 5 glass wine pairing was excellent, albeit the pours were light considering the 70 euro price point.
The food was mostly uninspiring and safe. The most thought provoking dishes were the fowl ravioli & the ice cream. The potatoes on the rabbit & potato course lacked seasoning.
All in all, it was just shy of a satisfactory experience. I left questioning my choice to come here."

Il Ridotto is located just east of St Mark’s on a plaza teeming with tourist traffic, but the restaurant emanates a calm elegance from its small, brick-clad premises. Tasting menus (of five, seven, or nine courses) are the thing to get here, offering the range of seafood and meaty creations of chef and owner Gianni Bonaccorsi. The beautifully plated dishes change seasonally but might include remarkably subtle renditions of risotto with yellow tomatoes and burrata, or pork cheek and belly with chamomile-flavored creamed potato and green apple.

Longtime restaurateur Gianni Bonaccorsi (proprietor of the popular Aciugheta nearby) has established an eatery where he can pamper a limited number of lucky patrons with his imaginative cuisine and impeccable taste in wine. Ridotto means “small, private place,” which this very much is, evoking an atmosphere of secrecy and intimacy; the innovative menus tend toward lighter but wonderfully tasty versions of classic dishes. Ask them to recommend a wine from the excellent cantina.

Owner Gianni Bonaccorsi is now flanked by his son Nicolò in this diminutive shrine to foodie excellence with exposed brick walls, and splashes of colour provided by some jazzy Murano water glasses. The menu is ever-changing but might include swede risotto with cumin and hibiscus, or beef rack with black garlic-flavoured puréed potatoes and turnip greens. Desserts are unmissable – think candied tomato, buffalo ricotta ice cream and citrus flavoured caramel sauce.
