Wherever you decide to go, book in advance to avoid missing out - these are very popular places.

Piola da Cianci € (Google Maps location): I had to include Piolada Cianci, as it's now an iconic spot offering traditional Piedmontese food at affordable prices. You can't make reservations, so expect to wait in line. While it’s become a bit crowded and lost some of its hidden-gem charm, I still recommend it for the authentic experience.

The food is less Michelin standard, more cheap and cheerful, but the portions are pretty hearty given the bill will rarely come in at over €25 all up, including. , mains, dessert and wine. In summer, the tables spill out onto Piazza IV Marzo; come winter, a glass marquee is set up to keep things cozy.

For a masterclass in local produce, check out the buzzing Cianci Piola Caffe on the edge of the Roman Quarter, where you’ll be guided through the budget-friendly menu by knowledgeable staff. Expect to pay approximately €30 per person for a selection of starters, pasta, mains and dessert.

Another great place is Cianci Piola Caffe in Largo IV Marzo, near the cathedral (click here for review). A piola is a small, casual and inexpensive place to eat. This one is open for dinner too and always busy and you can’t book so are likely to have to queue – but it’s worth it!

Piola da Cianci – “Life’s short, free up the table quickly!. ” is the motto at this no-frills trattoria. Here, stop in for carafes of house wine and generous portions of Piedmontese basics at low, low prices on their ever-changing menu, and don’t plan to linger!.

The walls are covered in retro ads and knickknacks and the tables are full of Italians. The food is homestyle and the menu simple; the kinds of dishes you’d likely get if someone invited you over for dinner at their mom’s house.

Spazio7 and Piola da Cianci also came highly recommended, as did the historic Caffè Platti and Caffè Mulassano. And to cap off any meal with a sweet treat, look no further than Gelateria Pepino.

A traditional home-cooking eatery, known in Piedmont as a Piola, they serve classic Piedmontese bites at a very affordable price. Make sure to get there early however as they can fill up fast.

It is not an easy task to describe in a few short sentences Cianci and its 10 years of existence. One thing is certain, though: you either love Cianci or you hate it!
