"Outstanding service, ambiance and food. What a treat - a very authentic and busy local restaurant which was exactly what we were looking for! We had the seafood risotto, which was outstanding and the black truffle pasta (which I felt would benefit from some finely chopped parsley to add some sharpness to the flavour) and the tiramisu, which was fabulous, despite missing the sharp espresso flavour that I admire. We were fairly conservative with our choices, but all the food coming out looked superb. Very highly recommended."

Known to every Treviso local, just behind the famous Piazza dei Signori – where a film that remains a monument to provincial Italian life (Pietro Germi’s Signore & Signori, 1965) was set – Toni del Spin is a trattoria that opened in 1880 and has managed to extend its lifespan without betraying its spirit. The name has deep roots: in 1932, a certain Toni left his old tavern just outside the city, called “Al Spin” due to the large thorny acacia tree out front, and took over a place in the centre. His nickname followed him – “quelo del spin,” the customers said.

Dato che ci lavora un mio carissimo amico, comincio con questa storica trattoria del centro. Non c’è una volta che lui non riesca a sorprendermi con una grappa dalla nuova sfumatura: come nella migliore tradizione dei ristoranti veneti doc, infatti, Toni del Spin fa sfoggio di almeno una cinquantina di etichette: Capodistato, Domenis, 903 Barrique, Castagner, Bottega Riserva Privata e chi più ne ha più ne metta. Come per i vini, qui ho l'imbarazzo della scelta.
