"Words can’t express how VERAMENTE ECCEZIONALE (truly exceptional!) this experience was for my partner and me last night.
We went all in with the tasting menu, a bottle of wine, and a digestivo to end — and I can honestly say it was the best dinner of our entire trip and well beyond. Chef Maurizio is inventive, authentic, and fun! Absolutely outstanding. His lovely wife was just as wonderful.
We stayed until closing, and they welcomed us like old friends sharing music, stories, and great tips for the rest of our travels. We wanted to book again for tonight, but sadly they close on Wednesdays.
We’ll definitely return to Syracuse with this unforgettable stop always in mind."

48 Hours In Ortigia, Sicily: What To See, Do And Eat
Start your day in Syracuse at Voglia Matta, a gelateria and pasticceria that serves a tantalizing array of Sicilian sweets and some of the best granita in town. Granita, a semi-frozen dessert, is a classic Sicilian breakfast and comes in a variety of classic and seasonal flavors like pistachio, almond, lemon, coffee or gelsi (mulberry). It’s traditionally served with a sweet brioche and the perfect morning fuel to explore the Neapolis Archeological Park of Siracusa.

Order a craft cocktail and bruschetta to whet your appetite before you head over to dinner at Macallè Sicilian Bistrot. A contemporary restaurant in a retro setting, Macallè serves modern interpretations of classic dishes like Parmigiana di Melanzane with zucchini, Paccheri alla Norma with a fried eggplant cream and Tagliolini noodles with fresh fish, roe and lemon zest. Opt for the four-course tasting menu to sample dishes selected by the chef (€50).
Where to eat in Ortigia, Sicily
Macalle – For some reason this restaurant is always described as a ‘bistrot’. I’m not quite sure what that means, but it’s definitely on the ‘modern’ side and serves some of the best food in the city. Incredibly fresh fish, cooked, as they describe it themselves ‘Nonna’s recipes revisited in a contemporary way’.
Where to Eat in Ortigia
One of the most sophisticated restaurants in town, they serve modern spins on traditional dishes. All of their dishes are excellent but always trust the exuberant owner and chef, Maurizio, to guide you to the day’s specials. The fish of the day is always a good choice.
