Reviews Summary

Apollonion - Osteria da Carlo is lauded for its exceptionally fresh seafood and incredible value, particularly the extensive tasting menu. Diners praise the authentic atmosphere and attentive service, though some find the fixed menu courses to be very generous. While most are delighted, a few mention that some dishes on the tasting menu were not to their personal taste.

"So we had a recommendation for this little gem, after looking at the menu we thought, how can it only have 6 items on the menu. We decided to stay and ordered mussels, pasta, fried seafood and fish of the day, and everything was amazing and delicious. They do offer a degustation menu as well."

Helen Myers

"The tasting menu is an incredible value for money, maybe even too much - you better be hungry and even then it’s going to be a challenge to chew yourself through it.
Some courses are more creative than others and the service was a touch unmotivated, but we stood up nonetheless satisfied at the end."

Dobsa Peter

"We had the tasting menu. Food was soso for me. I generally like garlic bread but this one didn't taste good on its own, in any sauce, or any broth. The pasta with tuna ragou at the end was really not to my taste. We saw a lot of people didn't finish theirs either. i was hovering 3 stars but the dessert was really good. We had the pistachio cheesecake and Panna cotta. Wine and water and dessert being included saves this for me."

Nestled on a side street behind the Temple of Apollo, this small osteria is known for its tasting menu, fully dependent on the daily catches of the day. Unassuming to say this least, this humble eatery is tucked away down a quiet Sicilian side street. The perfect setting for a romantic evening with charming outdoor seating, inside the decor oozes Italian rusticity thanks to stone-decked walls and vintage wine on show. However when it comes to the menu and dishes, Apollonion Osteria da Carlo is anything but subtle.

There’s not much decision-making here, you just pick your wine and wait for the food courses to keep coming – various appetizers, pasta dishes, fish entrée, desert – the chef decides, and it’s all delicious. The place is quite small and cozy, so book ahead, the price is very reasonable considering all the food they give you, and good value for money.

They always include a selection of both raw and cooked seafood, along with piles of toasted seasoned bread. I love the mussels steamed with almonds. If you are still hungry after the antipasti, you can order one of their excellent pastas.
