What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Osteria il Vinaio is celebrated for its authentic Tuscan cuisine and lively, neighborhood atmosphere, making it a local favorite. Diners rave about dishes like pici pasta and the charcuterie, complemented by friendly and helpful service. However, some visitors have noted that the service can feel less attentive to non-Italian speakers.
"We thoroughly enjoyed dining here!
The atmosphere was authentic and warm. The food was tasty and good value. Olivia had exceptional table service. She was very friendly and spoke English well. Olivia recommended some great dishes to try which had a “Siena spin”. The restaurant was very accommodating with food allergies and labelled them on the menu."

"Very classic restaurant - very nice environment - very friendly stuff and lovely traditional food.
The meat was delicious- pasta I would prefer to be a little more boiled. Very hard to chew. Lovely flavours though.
Lovely place and the stuff was very helpful when we asked “ tourist questions”"

"WOW, this was a great eating experience, and the best in Siena for me. Helpful, lively, local, and delicious. If you've had the Tuscany chicken liver pate' - forget it - this is a wonderful chopped version in a sauce that's mild and delicious. My beef pasta was perfect. I enjoyed every minute of my visit. 🙂"

The atmosphere here is pure Siena neighbourhood osteria: gingham tablecloths, postcards tacked to the rafters, and pictures of Palio jockeys on the walls…
One day in Siena - My city guide
Yellow paper napkins, wine by the glass, and the casual, loud surroundings will transport you to an authentic vinaio (an establishment where wine is both sold and consumed). The walls are decorated with images of the Palio and the Eroica bike race, cycling t-shirts, along with cured meats hanging from the ceiling, drawings and compliments left by customers. Upon entering, have a look at the counter as you begin to consider what to order from among the cured meats, frittatas, meatballs, and oil-preserved vegetables.
Where to eat on a budget in Siena
Il Vinaio is an excellent choice for a quick meal, as well as to taste the livers or trippa alla senese, two local speciies. This trattoria is also attended by Sienese, so isn’o the typical tourist restaurant. Il Vinaio di Bobbe and Davide is recommended for the selection of regional products, seasonal dishes and sandwiches with Tuscan DOP ham and Tuscan pecorino cheese.
Siena travel guide
Brothers Bobbe and Davide run their popular all-day eatery with enthusiasm. There’s a lively, market-place atmosphere and a traditional menu including local speciality pici pasta with Cinta Senese pork. Ingredients are from small-scale Tuscan producers, there’s a good choice of Chianti and the four wines by the carafe include Rosso di Montalcino and Bolgheri Superiore.
Things to do Siena Tuscany Italy
Every dish is delicious, but if you really want to taste the true flavours of Siena, you ought to eat Pici cacio e pepe or Pappardelle al rag di cinghiale (two traditional kinds of pasta, one with pecorino cheese and the other with wild boar sauce), and have a glass of Chianti Colli Senesi wine at Osteria il Vinaio, in Via di Camollia...

Further up the street you have Il Vinaio di Bobbe e Davide on your left. The place is run by two brothers and I highly recommend it. The service is cheerful and one of the waiters will ring the bell once in a while to salute you (or at least your child), the waiters enjoy their job and might offer you a free taste of a local specialty.

Finally, the Osteria Il Vinaio, in via Camollia 167, not far from the Giardini della Lizza and from our 3-star hotel, the Hotel Italia, will delight you with its delicious skewers with livers, bacon and sausage, to exalt with the rich full body of a Rosso di San Gimignano.
