What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Osteria degli Svitati is celebrated for its authentic Tuscan cuisine, with many praising the homemade pasta, particularly the pici, and rich ragù. The service is consistently described as friendly and attentive, contributing to a warm and cozy atmosphere. While most diners have a stellar experience, a few have noted that portions can be small and the prices high for what is served, with one reviewer mentioning children's pasta being expensive.
"We visited this place based on a recommendation by a local and it did not disappoint. It was away from government center area off a little street. They have two lunch sittings, noon and 2pm. We got lucky and got a table. They do have a minimum order, everything made fresh, don’t expect a rushed meal. The Pici alle briciole was amazing, the antipasto were fantastic, the best prosciutto! The staff were very welcoming. Gratzi Mille!"

"Absolutely amazing! This was hands down the best restaurant I experienced in Italy. The pici and tiramisu were chef’s kiss — so flavorful and memorable!
You get a fine dining experience for a fraction of the price — literally one-fourth (or even less). We arrived in Siena late and didn’t have time to research, but luckily got the last walk-in table. (Reservations are highly recommended!)
The service was wonderful — when we couldn’t decide between red or white wine, they let us try both. The owner and waiter were incredibly kind and patient, answering all our questions with care.
(Note for Chinese travelers: Pici意面和提拉米苏巨好吃,服务很好,价格也很亲民,强推!)
Every single dish was stellar. I still think about it after flying back to LA. Honestly, I’d happily live in Siena for a month just to eat here."

"So good that I almost don't want to write a review and make it too busy. The staff were very kind and accommodating, and the service was friendly and attentive. We sat outside at a lovely table on the street. The food was exceptional. The pastas were incredible, especially since we opted for fresh locally made pasta. The meatballs were on special and were a perfectly sized second course after the pasta. I highly recommend."

The Greatest Restaurants In Siena, Italy
With its cute, cherub-with-a-corkscrew logo painted on the windows, Osteria degli Svitati is every inch the typical Sienese trattoria. Very close to the house of Saint Catherine, one of Italy’s two patron saints, you’ll enjoy the soundtrack of cathedral bells. The anchovies with parsley, tarragon and boiled potatoes are extraordinary, and it’s one of the best places to try Tuscan aglione, a garlicky tomato sauce served with pasta or gnocchi.

A short walk from Piazza del Campo, Osteria degli Svitati is a great place to grab a bite while still having access to all of the city’s leading square offers. The restaurant is on the corner of Via del Pratello and Via delle Terme (the latter being the street behind Piazza del Campo), so you’ll have plenty to look at as you take your meal. The menu at Osteria degli Svitati features local cuisine like pasta e fagioli or pasta e baccalà (both meaning “pasta and beans” or “pasta with cod,” respectively).
The Best Restaurants in Siena in 2022
We ended up at Osteria Degli Svitati because they had minestrone soup on their menu, and as I said before, our obsession with soup is real. When we arrived they were booked for their first seating, but they made sure we would have a seat open at 9:00, so be sure to make a reservation!. The minestrone soup was different than what we had at Antica Trattoria Papei, as you can tell by the pictures, there wasn’t tomato used in this one, but it was still amazing!

One of our favorite spots in Siena, Osteria degli Svitati is perfect for sharing a platter of Italian cured meats and cheeses. Don't miss the chance to try their homemade pappardelle or pici with house ragù.
