Reviews Summary

Fatamorgana is celebrated for its exceptionally creative and delicious gelato, made with natural ingredients and featuring unique flavor combinations. Visitors consistently praise the friendly and welcoming staff. While some find the portions small for the price, the overall experience is highly recommended for its quality and taste.

"By far, this is one of the best gelato thst I ever had.
The staff is super friendly, and the ice cream is made with natural ingredients and super tasty.
If you are in the area, don't miss them...also it is worth a detour."

C. Morgan

"A bit of a queue but definitely worth it! A unique range of flavours and great value for money, 3€ for a double flavour cone! Would have it every day!"

Alexandra Ștefănescu

"This was by FAR the best gelato I had my entire trip! And as someone gluten free, having a super tasty gluten free cone made it all the better. The pistachio and straciatella were super creamy and perfectly flavored. I do wish the pistachio had been a bit stronger, I found it to be a little mild, but it was still incredible. The employees were all very friendly. They always ask if you want whipped cream on top too! Which I did not experience at any other gelato shop. Overall, PLEASE make your way here if you’re staying in Rome, gluten free or not. I wish I could take it back to America with me!"

A tiny, no-frills kind of place, Fatamorgana is known for its all-natural ingredients, but it’s the whimsical flavor combinations—and their claimed health benefits—that draw the crowds. Thumbelina (walnuts from Sorrento, rose petals, and violet leaves) is a taste sensation with pleasing crunch, while Thought—ginger, horseradish, lemon peel, and pink grapefruit—is a firecracker of a flavor that doubles as an instant hangover cure. It's an exciting, energizing, and totally take on Rome's favorite frozen dessert.

The best home-made ice-cream in Rome?

The first Fata ice-cream shop, whose owner is Maria Agnese, opened a few years ago near us, in via Lago di Lesina, and the ice-cream became so popular that other shops were opened up all over Rome, carefully maintaining the same high quality of ice-cream. Maria Agnese Spagnuolo is always looking for new recipes and every season she creates unusual, new flavours such as Pampinella, with fig milk, or Aglio nero (Black Garlic) or ice-cream made of Taggiasche Olives or Pensiero, with pink grapefruit and ginger. For children, the names of the flavours are taken from fairytales, like Il Bacio del Principe (the Prince’s kiss), Pollicina (Thumbellina) and Biancaneve (Snow White).

Known for his fearless experimentation, Torcè built a reputation on over 100 flavors that push the boundaries of tradition: black sesame, habanero, celery, and cacio e pepe, to name a few. Since 2018, his shops—operating under the name Gelateria Torcè—have been owned by Juraj Detvaj, but they remain essential destinations for serious gelato lovers.
