What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Caffè Vaticano's prime location near the Vatican is its biggest draw, offering convenience for tourists. While some find the pizza and gelato enjoyable, many reviewers caution about the significantly inflated prices and inconsistent service. Be prepared for a busy atmosphere and potential upselling tactics.
"Given how bad the reviews were, I had to give this place a try and add my two cents. Let’s be real—if you’re expecting low prices and lightning-fast service at a spot where you could practically toss an olive over the Vatican walls, you’re asking for too much. You’re paying for the convenience while you wait for your tour to start, and that’s just part of the deal.
That said, it wasn’t nearly as bad as people make it out to be. They served complimentary taralli and nuts with drinks, the spritzes had a solid kick, and the pizza was pretty damn good for a tourist trap. Even after dropping 60€ at my table, the guy at the gelato bar wouldn’t let me sample without paying first, but that seemed to be a Rome-wide policy. It is what it is.
5 stars just to help out their algorithm 💪"

"Not great, just popular due to its convenient location.
The food and drinks were ok, but not worth the very high prices.
The staff were all acting quite strangely, acting incredibly busy and stressed despite the cafe being about half full.
We weren't greeted when we arrived, and nothing was explained to us, so we were confused by where to sit, how to order, what the process were, how to pay, etc.
Our food was sitting on top of the counter for ages, I even went up to try to take it, but was told I had to wait.
When we tried to split the bill 50/50, we were told that their till doesn't accept 5p, so they had to split by 10p. It was all very strange."

"Loud and Busy. High Prices. BUT it is next to the Vatican Museum and the main entrance. Manage your own expectations if you pop in here, it is very convenient and they have plenty of room, plus the gelato is amazing. Great coffee, We were happy with the service, it was ok."
