An understandably popular spot in Ravello whose ravishing dining terrace with dreamy views (a favourite for marriage proposals) takes centre stage, but whose quiet hotel, little changed for decades, makes one of the most pleasant and authentic places to stay in the town. It feels as if it has changed little since it first opened, a charming medley of potted palms, busts, piano, inlaid furniture and silver arranged on wooden shelves that lends the old villa a distinctly Edwardian feel. All rooms have a sea view (or partial sea view), but no. 3 is a cut above the rest, with its huge terrace, five sets of French windows and handsome secretaire.

Hued in glowing terracotta, adorned with gorgeous flowers, and fronted by a vast garden terrace, the Villa Maria offers more sunny warmth than Ravello's more formal hotels—not to mention a delightfully friendly staff (thanks to the hands-on management of the Palumbo family) and a convenient restaurant. All but two rooms are standard, and there's an airy suite that has a large balcony overlooking the coast. The views here are of the Vallone del Dragone, not the bay, but are memorable all the same.

En route from town, tucked away amongst lush lemon trees, you'll pass the more affordable but charmingly beautiful Hotel Villa Maria, whose grounds and Ristorante Villa Maria come highly recommended. A welcome stop for a cool beverage after climbing lots of steps. There was so much to see along the way, including a beautiful convent with a quiet garden and museum to peruse.

A slow saunter from one to the other can be enough to work up an appetite from the steep alleyways so characteristic of Ravello. As with many beautiful hotels on the Amalfi Coast, The Villa Maria is a family-run hotel with four generations of history to its name. Despite numerous handovers, the spirit of this hotel has remained consistent, and it prides itself on the attention to detail and the luxury it provides.

Located along the peaceful pathway leading to Villa Cimbrone, this lovely hotel offers a quiet respite with views down a lush green valley towards the sea. The rooms feel surrounded by nature and are well lit with large windows and doors opening to balconies or terraces.

We went to Villa Maria for lunch and the views this restaurant offers is so beautiful. The hotel itself is so stunning with beautiful interiors and crazy views. We defiantly recommend coming here for some awesome photo opportunities, and a peach Bellini, or three.

I stayed at Villa Maria, it was a lovely hotel with amazing views and a great breakfast. The staff was incredible and they have a sister hotel down the street where you can go swimming.
