Honest thoughts - you should go and try it out yourself - the Nonna is super sweet. The vegetable soup and Tiramasu were 10/10 and pasta was a 6 or 7. #italy #reccommendations #eurosummer #ravello #foodie

Reviews Summary

Ristorante La Caravella is celebrated for its exceptional service, artistic ambiance within a historic palace, and standout dishes like the renowned lemon soufflé. While many praise the immersive experience and high-quality ingredients, a few diners have noted critiques regarding consistency and value, particularly concerning dietary accommodations.

"The first thing to say about this place is that the service is exceptional. You are greeted at the door and from the moment you are shown to your table it already feels like an experience. We opted for the seasonal taster menu, which was the perfect amount of food for an evening dinner. The menu had a heavy emphasis on fresh, locally sourced produce of fish and vegetables. Each dish was nicely balanced and allowed the amazing quality of the produce to speak for itself. I also really enjoyed the decor, the artwork was unique and interesting, and the plates, cutlery, and wine glasses gave the place a feel of elegance but comfort. If you’re in Amalfi and are looking for an amazing experience combining excellent service and a varied taste of local cuisine and produce La Caravella is definitely worth visiting."

"Dining at Caravella is not just a meal—it’s an experience. As the oldest Michelin-starred restaurant in Italy, it more than lives up to its legendary reputation. From the moment you step inside, you’re transported into a world where culinary mastery meets fine art. The dining room is adorned with artwork that rivals what you’d find in a museum, adding a cultural richness to the already extraordinary ambiance.

Each course that arrived was a work of art in its own right—so exquisitely presented that I hesitated to take the first bite, not wanting to disturb the masterpiece in front of me. But once I did, the flavors delivered on every promise the visual beauty made.

Early in the meal, we were served what I can only describe as the most delicious olive oil of our entire trip. The moment it touched my lips, it created an impeccable sensation—silky, vibrant, and layered with depth. It set the tone for a meal where even the simplest elements were elevated to the extraordinary.

The service was nothing short of impeccable—refined, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. Every course was delivered with precision and care, and the staff made the evening feel effortless and elegant.

As someone who has dined at multiple Michelin two-star restaurants, I can say without hesitation that Caravella outperforms many of them—not only in the quality of the cuisine, but in the cohesive, immersive nature of the entire experience. Every detail, from the plating to the pacing, reflects a deep reverence for tradition, hospitality, and excellence.

Caravella is a destination in itself—an unforgettable blend of Amalfi charm, culinary brilliance, and artistic grandeur. A true gem."

"Watch this before you go please!
This restaurant is a prank, a lie!
Michelin guide please notice this. It’s about the reputation of Michelin guide.

I expected this restaurant pretty much. It’s famous for its history and traditional Campanian cuisine and Michelin gave them one star for “High quality cooking” which is totally not real.

I skipped to judge the service part. The only thing you need to know is that they didn’t smile at all until you pay for the meal and that’s the end of all experience. When we sit, they didn’t even introduce their menu for today.

It was a 7 courses menu. 150 euro per person.

Firstly, the bread was so dry. I only ate a few because it cannot trigger my appetite at all. I tried many bread in Europe, this was the lowest quality bread.

The starter they called Sushi style but I didn’t see any sushi at all. It was just raw fish without any cooking technics. It was cultural misappropriation. I felt insulted by this dish. (We are Asian.)

Then, few dishes were using the same plain croutons, bad chopped, no-cooked tomato dice. If this was how Michelin called “High quality cooking”. I would rather spend 10 euro buy a bread, tomato, olive oil from any supermarket and chop them roughly. And throw the rest of 140 euro into the sea of Amalfi.

Almost all the dishes were plain but the scialatielli in their menu was too salty. They had bad taste on their own seasoning.

In conclusion, La Carevella has bad service, bad cooking quality, and their 7 courses menu was plain without any sincerity. But the Campanian wine was distinctive I couldn’t deny it. But it definitely doesn’t deserve a Michelin one star. This is a shame I follow Michelin guide and end up a bad experience like this.

Let’s see how many people will spend more than 100 euro to eat “this”."

Restaurant Museum – Ristorante La Caravella

It is located beside the ancient Shipyards of Amalfi, in a building dating back to 1100. The aisle of the building, with elegant and romantic rooms and with attention to details, it is decorated with silks from San Leucio and where worked in a fabric during 1700. Both in the restaurant and in the Gallery, we have the privilege to exhibit several masterpieces made my artists of ceramic from 1800 to modern time and this collection is represented today of the most important in the World.

Highlights of a culinary tour of the Amalfi Coast include eating pizza in the place it was created, Naples; tasting the Amalfi lemons the way locals want you to with a few shots of Limoncello; and paying pilgrimage to the first Michelin-starred restaurant in southern Italy, La Caravella del 1959. La Caravella still retains its Michelin star but it’s far from the only one – today there are more Michelin starred restaurants along the Amalfi Coast than in any other part of Italy.
