What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Gelateria De' Coltelli is lauded as one of the best gelato experiences in Tuscany, with many calling it a religious experience. Reviewers rave about the creamy texture and intensely natural flavors, especially the pistachio. While some find prices on the higher side, the quality and unique offerings are consistently praised, making it a must-visit spot.
"Absolutely worth a stop! The gelato at Gelateria De’ Coltelli is genuinely excellent – creamy texture, rich flavour. There’s a great selection of both classic and unique flavors, and when we went, there was no line at all. Service was quick, and the prices were very reasonable compared to other artisanal gelato spots in Italy. The place itself has a bit of history – it’s known as one of the first gelaterias in Italy to focus on organic, natural ingredients and traditional methods. Founded in the early 2000s, it helped kick off the “slow gelato” movement, and you can taste the difference. If you’re walking along the Arno in Pisa, don’t miss this gem. Simple, honest, and delicious."

"The pistachio ice cream? Absolute perfection—creamy, rich, and full of real nutty flavor that makes you question every pistachio gelato you’ve had before. The maron (chestnut) flavor, on the other hand, felt like it got lost somewhere between concept and cone—underwhelming and kind of forgettable. Prices are definitely on the higher side, but honestly, I’d still come back for that pistachio alone. It’s that good. Just maybe skip the chestnut detour"

"This is my favorite granita I have ever tasted. Every time I’m close or pass through Pisa, I go back for a treat. Sweet, flavorful and natural, you can really taste the fruits. Ice creams are also great."

Eating My Way Through Pisa
When I searched for gelato in Pisa, a couple of names kept coming up over and over again, and one of those names was Gelateria de’Coltelli. When I arrived, I looked at all of the different flavors that they had to offer and after being stuffed with spoonful after spoonful of samples from the girl behind the counter, I settled on a mixture of pistachio and vanilla, which she informed me was completely natural. She went on to tell me that all of the flavors of gelato that they served were all natural, unlike many Italian gelaterias, and that the majority of the products were locally sourced.

They make a few flavours of gelato and frozen yogurt, as well as ice cream sandwiches and sundaes.
