Reviews Summary

Pasticceria Cappello is a highly acclaimed pastry shop celebrated for its exceptional quality and traditional Sicilian sweets, especially its renowned cannoli and Setteveli cake. While many praise the delicious offerings and friendly service, some reviews mention occasional rudeness from staff and long wait times due to its popularity.

"This place was very busy on Christmas and for a reason, I saw so many beautiful pastry platters arranged in front of my eyes each more enticing than the other. Draw a number at the entrance and wait for your turn, order, pay at the cashier and pick up your carefully packed sweets. Sfogliata with ricotta was my favourite, super crispy layers and balanced ricotta cream. The pistachio petit fours was also amazing. House chocolate bars with pistachio and other nuts or dried fruit also available at the cashier desk."

Naomi Reich

"Delicious pastries! The tiny gelato sandwich and delizia pistachio cake were so tasty. And the cannolicchio was perfect! Great coffee too."

Julia Wald

"Angelo, Eugenia, Salvo are excellent in services. Had Americano and Capocino here with both types of pistachio pastries. Superb tasty 😋 and great coffee."

The 16 Best Restaurants In Palermo - Palermo

When it comes to sweet shops, Cappello is a true Palermitan institution since 1940 and is famous for their setteveli cake with seven layers of chocolate and hazelnut cream. Located just outside the Porta Nuova city gate, between the cathedral and the Capuchin Catacombs, it is worth going a little bit out of your way. The historic shop reopened in early 2023 after renovations with more indoor and outdoor seating, a full display case of ricotta-filled sweets, marzipan fruit, fried sfince puffs, cassata cakes, artisan chocolates, nougat, gelato and granita.

Palermo’s 11 Best Restaurants And Osterie For Local Flavour

Located in the historic city center along via Colonna Rotta, this family run business was first opened in the 1940s as a dairy before it became a bar and finally the famous pastry shop that it is today. Master pastry chef Salvatore, together with his son Giovanni, have perfected the art of chocolate and pastry production, which is exemplified in deserts such as the seven layer cake, the chocolate mousse with pears flambe, sponge cake with almonds and pistachios and typically Sicilian treats such as Cassata and Cannoli. Recommended by Ellen Von Weigand.

Palermo: i migliori cannoli siciliani

Where to eat the best Sicilian Cannoli in Palermo

Salvatore Cappello, born in 1956, is always at the forefront, assisted by his wife and son Giovanni. The finesse and taste of their homemade sweets showcase their talent and mastery of technique. The mignons and single portions are elegant, but the ricotta desserts, starting with the well-made and balanced cannoli, are the most successful.
