What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Cappadonia Gelati is celebrated for its exceptionally smooth and creamy gelato, with many highlighting the pistachio flavor as outstanding. Patrons consistently praise the high quality of ingredients and the authentic Sicilian tastes. While most reviews are glowing, one reviewer found it didn't quite live up to the hype of being the absolute best in town, though still acknowledged the good ice cream and amazing staff.
"The ice cream was very good and had lots of flavor. The prices aren't too high (3.50€ for the big cup). The staff were very friendly and joking with us. The size of the scoops are good compared to other gelato shops. The place is very clean. It is on one of the biggest streets in Palermo so it's very visible."

"Some of the best gelato I have ever tasted. We had pistachio and a flavour that tasted like chocolate hazelnut. We chose the brioche option. The brioche was soft and fluffy and not too sweet which paired perfectly with the ice cream. Highly recommend."

"Exceptional ice cream. Clearly the best in Italy as Lonely Planet seems to point out you can taste the quality of ingredients as you put it in your mouth. Straciatella is my favorite and I highly recommend recommended here. As you can see, I was here every day.😊"

Restaurants in Sicily
After experiencing the cozy but basic trattorias located down Palermo's twisting alleyways, take a sweet break at this modern gelateria along the main drag, which serves exceptional gourmet ice cream. The flavors change with the seasons, but don't miss the tangerine sorbet that bursts with sweet citrus tang or the classic zabaglione custard.
SUITCASE Magazine | Where to Eat in Palermo, Sicily
This award-winning ice-cream shop has a small queue outside when it opens at 10am (11am on Sundays) - a clear sign that the gelato here is some of the best in Palermo. Flavours are strictly natural - no bubble-gum blue or sickly sweet pink in sight - and owner Antonio Cappadonia is meticulous in ensuring all ingredients have a pedigree provenance. Peaches are sourced from Montagnola del Monti Sicani; pomegranates from Caltavutoro; the almonds are Puglia's best; and pistachios are the vivid-green kind that grow so well in Bronte, on the slopes of Etna.
The Hip Local's Guide to Palermo
Cappadonia Gelati – Here, owner and mastermind Antonio Cappadonia, who has been making gelato since 1987, puts extreme care into the selection of his raw materials–mainly local fruits and other ingredients. His inspiration comes from the land, creating flavors like “Fior di Fragole” with strawberries from the Sicani Mountains and “Crema Passito di Noto” with passito from Noto. Be sure to try whatever seasonal fruit flavors he has.
11 Great Places to Eat in Palermo, Sicily
Gelato is synonymous with Italy so you would be hard pressed to come to Sicily and not end up devouring this delicious sweet treat, even inadvertently so. Cappadonia Gelati is well-renowned for scooping up the best gelato in the whole of Palermo and honestly it’s not hard to see why. I went with the salted caramel flavour; two mountains of which were served up inside a brioche bun.
The 7 Best Gelato Shops in Palermo
Universally recognised as one of the best gelato shops in Palermo, if not in Italy, Cappadonia Gelati won the prestigious “Three Cones” award from Gambero Rosso in 2020. It’s not hard to see why. Chef Antonio Cappadonia only uses seasonal raw materials and milk from organic farms.
