What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bar Vabres is consistently praised for its exceptional arancini and high-quality specialty coffee, making it a favorite for both locals and tourists. The friendly service and cozy atmosphere, especially with its outdoor seating, contribute to a highly recommended dining experience in Palermo. While the space itself is noted as small, the quality of food and service more than makes up for it.
"The only place I visited twice during my trip. Had my best ARANCINI, cornetto (don’t even have a pic cuz I devoured it), and iris — all incredibly cheap at just €2 each. They were so popular with locals, packed with them in the morning."

"I had an amazing cappuccino with oat milk here! The Indian single origin blend paired perfectly with the oat milk. The service was good, and the staff were kind and friendly.
I also tried a vegan Arancini for the first time, it was absolutely delicious."

"We stumbled upon Vabres in Palermo and ended up going every single day of our trip—it was that good. The pastries are all made fresh in-house and are absolutely delicious. The coffee? Smooth, strong, and consistently great. The staff were so kind and accommodating to our order each morning, making the whole experience even better. Warm, welcoming vibe, incredible service, and genuinely the best breakfast we had in Sicily. Highly recommend if you’re in Palermo! ☕🥐"

Eating & Drinking in Palermo
When I visit Palermo, I usually stay near Mazzara (Via Generale Magliocco 19) or Bar Vabres (Via Michele Cipolla83/85), both of which do delectable ricotta-filled cornetti (as well as every other imaginable pasty), but I have been known to travel across town to Oscar on Via Migliaccio for my cassata. Costa is also quite awesome and I wouldn’t turn down a cannolo from Alba. In the Capo Market, Le Angeliche Dolci al Volo does nice pastries from across the island.

If you are one of those who believe in starting the day off right, this is the place for you: excellent handcrafted croissants and a rich selection of specialty coffees. And for those who prefer savoury breakfast foods, there is a wide choice of Palermo’s rotisserie, with special mention for the arancine. The Hip Local's Guide to Palermo
Bar Vabres – In the vibrant Botanical Gardens, the 50-year-old Bar Vabres is a secret gem of the Palermitane. Stop in for a perfect breakfast of coffee and a slice of cassata or for a quick lunch of perfectly crunchy arancine. Must Order: Arancina di carne and coffee from the specialty line, a partnership between Alessio Vabres and Etna Roaster.
Palermo – coffee & cakes
I’ve left my favourite cafe till last, Bar Vabres at 85 Via Michele Cipolla, not too far from the station. Like Rizzuto, Vabres seems to be another heirloom family cafe that has undergone a Third Wave makeover. Flat whites are on the menu here as well and it’s the only place I went to where the barista put any effort into presentation.

Every day they serve all kinds of wonderful arancini stuffed with mozzarella, ragu, bacon, sausage, and provolone cheese. Visit on a weekend, and you’ll have the chance to try their sweet chocolate arancini, too.
