Reviews Summary
Osteria Nane della Giulia offers a truly authentic Venetian dining experience, praised for its unique traditional dishes and excellent local wine selection. While many guests rave about the attentive service and warm, rustic atmosphere, some reviews mention that the menu can be challenging for non-Italian speakers and suggest the bread was not ideal. One extreme review describes a very negative encounter with the owner.
"Short version: Best meal and best wine we had in Padua!
Longer version: the staff were lovely and gave us a break down of the menu with a detailed description of the plates. They explained what each one was, how it was cooked, and explained which were local and which were house specialities.
Then: instead of house wines they had a selection of wines to choose from by the glass! Not a connoisseur ourselves we asked our server to decide and we ended up with the two best wines we had all trip!
The food came and was delicious and quite different to other meals we had, being more similar to Northern European food as we got the donkey stew and a chicken dish that was cooked in red wine.
Would go again 💯!"

"Great place. Service was excellent. Food outstanding. Atmosphere very cute. They now have English menus. The staff was very helpful. I can't say enough good things about the food. It is very authentic local fare. Yes, not a tourist place, but very welcoming to all. Eat here if you can!"

"Before our trip I spent considerable time reading reviews and recommendations for restaurants along the way. Osteria Nane della Giulia was one of the highest recommendations in Padua.
We split the potato dumplings and the chicken leg. Both were amazing. Another in our group had the donkey stew and it was also incredible.
This was one of the best meals we had on our trip. Which matches several of the recommendations that led us to this restaurant."

Double Skinny Macchiato: A Weekend in Padua
The more modern of the two and my first choice, Osteria Ai Scarponi, was fully booked so we headed to the second, the more traditional Trattoria Nane della Giulia, which had a hand-written menu in Venetian dialect with an Italian translation (no English, so it was a lucky my friends brought their translator!). It was a very authentic experience and the colourful, rustic décor complemented the lively ambience. The food was great too: I had a local specialty, bigoi pasta (see above) with an anchovy and orange sauce.

Personally my favourite pizza, though it might not be a classical Italian Pizza and the sizes are fairly small. It’s the eldest pizzeria in town and you can see they’re experienced in what they do. If you get there after 7, waiting times can get long, but you can always order and take a walk around prato della valle – which is also where people go to have their pizza, as there are only two tables inside and a few outside.

The restaurant has dark wooden tables situated beneath vaulted ceilings. The food choice is amazing, there is a delectable array of authentic, Veneto cuisine to choose from. Try some local cheese, or even step it up and taste some chicken in red grappa with pancetta and polenta.
